The Weekend Wonder – Michael Hogan

no to yes

My first word of advice is this: say yes. In fact, say yes as often as you can. Saying yes begins things. Saying yes is how things grow. Saying yes leads to new experiences, and new experiences will lead to knowledge and wisdom. Yes is for young people, and an attitude of yes is how you will be able to go forward in these uncertain times.

Lush Make-Up: Emotional Brilliance Review

lush makeup
The geniuses over at Lush have finally answered all the addict’s wishes. They’re releasing a make-up line. SQUEE! (…and back to business.)

The range, Emotional Brilliance, is comprised of 30 vegan colour products and is tailored to your personality and psyche. How?

Via “The Emotional Brilliance Colour Wheel” (pictured below), each customer will undergo a personalised colour reading. The wheel will also be available on the Lush website and on an app. To get your reading, you will choose three colours that stand out to you. Each colour has been linked to a word or trait (thanks to a lot of research at Lush HQ) and will reveal your current state of mind.

Colour One (mine was Calm): The colour that represents your current strength or weakness. The trait that should be on your mind.
Colour Two (mine was Ambition): The colour that resonates with your subconcious need – what your subconcious desires the most. You should wear this colour to remind yourself of your goals.
Colour Three (mine was Charm): The colour that represents your talent – the thing that will drive your subconscious needs.

The lip colours, eyeliners, and eyeshadows can be worn for their intended purpose, or even dotted on your wrist to act as an empowering reminder throughout the day.

In addition to the Colour Wheel, Lush will introduce Eyes Right Mascara, Translucent Face Powder, the Feeling Younger Skin Tint (works as a highlighter), and Charisma Skin Tint (works as a glow/subtle contour).

After trying out the products for the photo above, I can promise this line is going to become a cult favourite.

  • The skin tints highlighted and contoured my skin in the most beautiful, subtle way. Feeling Younger is especially pretty around the eyes.
  • The red lipstick, Ambition, has a long-wearing gloss appeal. Even after drinking, it wore down into a pretty red stain.
  • The blue eyeliner, Calm, is incredibly easy to apply and blended well on my hands. It would be a fantastic base colour for eyeshadows.
  • The pink blush, Charm, is actually a lipstick. With just one dot on each cheek, it blended out into a comfortable and doll-like flush of colour.
  • The mascara, Eyes Right, could not clump if you tried. I had low hopes for this product as most natural mascaras that I have tested never do anything special. This baby, however, lengthened and defined my eyelashes like a high-end and chemical-filled tube. Incredible results.

Luck in The Sales

floral days
I currently have £150 to spend in accumulated gift cards and no idea what I’m spending them on. In fact, I always seem to get wallet-numbingly frugal when it comes to spending gift cards. Sales, however? The minute I find a good deal the cash is flashed.

Secret Sales (click here for an invite!) is one of the sites that always ‘gets me’. Their latest sales include the above: a Pussycat London white v-neck floral dress (£12 from £28, belt swap, add a blazer, BOOM!), Paula Soler woven platform wedges (£39 from £97 and my ultimate summer shoe!), and red iLuv earphones (£7 from £15, and much needed for my upcoming trip to Berlin). Yes…I’m justifying my spending via blog.

What I Wore – Neutral Shapes

dance blogger
The part of me that is British really likes to talk about the weather. Even more so, I like to whip my messy hair in different weather situations are take photos. That is why the photo above is in existence.

Shorts and XXXL shirts are my Summertime Staple of the week. The wedges were a strange call in hindsight, but after cutting up the back of my heels at Regent Tweet, they were the only suitable and backless option.

Shop the look: Oversized black batwing shirt (similar here), S/S 2011 gold River Island shorts (similar here), and handmade wedges (similar here).

Regent Tweet

Regent Tweet

When I was invited to Regent Tweet a few weeks ago, I didn’t know what to expect. “An experiential shopping and lifestyle event for women that engages Regent Street’s fashion and lifestyle shops, bars and restaurants with online influencers” by description, however, piqued my interest. We all know I love me some Twitter, and with an itinerary full workshops and Twitter-based prize draws, there could have been many worse ways to spend my Saturday.

The best part turned out to be the friendships made, in fact. After falling in love with Katie while checking in at the Swarovski Crystallized lounge, we ended up spending the following eight hours together and meeting more lovely women and gentlefolk in the process. (Shout out to Felicity and Rosie – wonderful ladies and unexpected soulmates!)

This is a must-do event, guys. First, Katie and I bolted to Jaeger and became two of the lucky 50 bloggers who won £50 gift vouchers. The rest of our day included a cuticle glossing treatment and blow dry at FOUR London (see above!), coffee and pastries from hidden gem Tibits, Godiva chocolate, pampering goodies courtesy of Crabtree and Evelyn, cocktails and tapas from Aqua (one of London’s best rooftops), ice cream from Freggo, a T-shirt in a tin from Superdry, an Airform top from Uniqlo, a Moleskine notebook from Sebago (obsessed!), a food and health ‘tweet treat bag’ from Wholefood Market (poor babies had a boiling water flood before our cupcake-making masterclass!), a nail varnish from The Organic Pharmacy, cocktail making classes at The Living Room, and a delicious chilli-topped martini at Dirty Martini. Swag meets perfect ‘girl’s day‘.
