What I Wore – Leather Skater Skirt

leather skater skirt
Though I’ve been looking for a leather skater skirt for a few months, most of the ones that have caught my eye have been in excess of £100. Those closer to my budget, of course, looked like PVC trash bags or had just enough material to cover my womanhood. Not the look I’m going for.

Praise River Island (!) – they produced this wine-coloured leather skater for £35. Sun’s out, legs out.

What I Wore: Leather skirt from River Island (my next choice, also from River Island), blue glitter top from H&M (white version here), blue chained cut-out heels (handmade), and sapphire ring from Jian London.

The Weekend Wonder – Amy Poehler

couple sleeping

“Try to keep your mind open to possibilities and your mouth closed on matters that you don’t know about. Limit your always and your nevers. Continue to share your heart with people even if it’s been broken. Don’t treat your heart like an action figure wrapped in plastic and never used. And don’t try to give me that nerd argument that your heart is a batman with a limited edition silver Batarang and therefore if it stays in its original package it increases in value.”

J Lo Makeup Tutorial – Goin’ In

j lo goin in
Jennifer Lopez – a longtime beauty inspiration of mine – has just released a single featuring Flo Rida for the upcoming soundtrack of ‘Step Up Revolution’ called ‘Goin’ In‘. While she wears a lot of gorgeous Blumarine pieces in the music video, it’s not the fashion that blew me away. It was the make-up: a perfect mix of wild and wearable.

Get The Look – Goin in:
Skin: There is a flawless matte base which holds the look together (try Illamasqua’s Skin Base). While her foundation isn’t dewy, her skin is still luminous. To achieve this tricky glow, I used Lush’s new Feeling Younger skin tint under the eye area and on top of my cheekbones.

Cheeks: J Lo is wearing very little blush, but the natural depth of her cheekbones helps create quite a chiselled look. If, like me, you don’t have cheekbones that cut glass, blend a matte bronzer under your cheekbones (try Stila Set and Bronze) and a lilac-toned blush (try BareMinerals’ Secret) lightly on the apples of your cheeks.

Eyes: The eyes are not the focal point of the look, but still look gorgeous in the video. The eyeshadow is barely-there and the lashes (extensions, I believe) are perfection. To achieve this look, I used GOSH Cosmetics Boombastic mascara on my top lashes, but I would suggest a pair of natural falsies (try Eylure Feathery lashes) if you would like a little more definition on a night out. Because the look has no eyeliner, create a bit of defnition by sweeping a taupe eyeshadow (Naked 2 palette saves the day!) over your entire lid area, blending into the crease.

Lips: Much easier than they look, my darlings! The look requires two steps; 1) lipstick and 2) crystals! To create the perfect lip colour, I mixed together silver glitter, a fuschia lipstick, a purple lipstick and sealed it with Lipcote. The Lipcote isn’t essential if you want to leave your lips glittery, but if you wish to go for the full crystallized effect it is an additional measure to help the pieces adhere.
Once my lip colour felt secure, I applied eyelash glue to the back of Swarovski crystals and applied them to my lips using tweezers. For the best shape, start on the edge of your lips and fill your lips with crystals from the outside in.

Throwing a shirt over your head = optional.

The Face: ANTM meets The Voice

the face
If Naomi Campbell hosting a reality TV show wasn’t a big enough headline grabber, the supermodel has just sent the internet a-tizzy by adding three more fashion powerhouses to the mix. Today, Coco Rocha blogged that she and Karolina Kurkova would be the two other supermodels on board for Oxygen’s “The Face“.

From the blog:
“As the youngest mentor of the three, I have looked up to Naomi and Karolina my entire career and am ecstatic to be able to work side by side with them on this amazing new project. We, as coaches, will scout and choose our teams from aspiring young models nationwide before guiding them through assignments, which include photo shoots, runway shows and commercials for some of America’s best known brands”.

With Nigel Barker also participating in the show – supposedly as the host – I have never been so excited for a season of anything to start (ok…not including Mad Men.)

As only one model hopeful is going to become “The Face” (and the star of a major brand campaign, to boot!), this new reality show is going to be an exciting mashup of The Voice’s competitive slant and America’s Next Top Model fashion mentoring. Stilettos at the ready.
