Though I imagine the days of mail-order catalogs are well and truly over, the National Bellas Hess Catalog was at the top of its game in the 50s and 60s. Mailing our over 25 million catalogs a year with a typical return of over 250 million dollars, they were a sales force to be reckoned with. These scans from one of their 1955 catalogs might explain why: dresses for only $2.99? I’d take forty.
God, I can’t wait for the return of Mad Men…
Love Magazine loves to do multiple covers. The last issue featured eight models, including Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Daria Werbowy, Lara Stone, Jeneil Williams, Natalia Vodianova, Kristen McMenamy, and Amber Valletta in the exact same pose.
For September’s Love Issue 4, the editors are continuing the trend, but this time around, the looks are anything but similar. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley takes on a 50s bombshell appearance, while Alessandra Ambrosio’s gone high fashion and drastic by bleaching her eyebrows and painting on a bright red lip to pair with the background. All eight covers will be coming soon.
The eyebrows! The red lipstick! The 50s throwback!
