Bambi Northwood-Blyth and Lindsey Wixson
has put quite a smile on my little fashion face, today. For their latest issue – on stands November 8th
– they have used actual models
! Four covers worth! For the first time in two years
Obviously, this kind of decision – after two years of celebrity covers – wasn’t going to take place without tagging some big names onto the shoot; infamous photographer Terry Richardson was on lens, while styling was handled by Carine Roitfeld. Each cover duo was brilliantly chosen, and included six of my current favourite models – Candice Swanepoel and Joan Smalls; Daphne Groeneveld and Saskia de Brauw; Sui He and Hanaa Ben Abdesslem, and Bambi Northwood-Blyth and Lindsey Wixson.
“These eight girls are unique, not one is like the other. Candice is the only blonde and blue-eyed of this new generation of supermodels. Joan is black, Sui He is Asian, Hanna is North African. It’s their diversity that makes each of them, to me, truly modern. They bring a new energy to fashion. […] It’s a big moment of change in fashion. In some cases, you feel like it’s the end of an era. I have been feeling this with cover subjects, and especially models.”
– Carine Roitfeld

I am in awe of Carine Roitfeld. Though I’m over 30 years behind her in age, the woman embodies everything I want to do and become. After leaving her well-deserved position as Editor in Chief of French Vogue, she has been scouring the globe and sharing her creative vision everywhere that matters in the industry. Now, to coincide with a wonderful feature of her in W Magazine‘s October 2011 issue, she has revealed this photo shoot. Not only is the 57-year-old Wonderwoman the model, but she selected and styled the pieces, as well. Get her a DSLR and some make-up, someone; every shoot could be a one-woman production. (Though, hey, Paolo Roversi is an exceptional second choice for photographer!) View Post
Yes, that is in fact former editor of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld, looking fierce on the cover of i-D magazine‘s Fall 2011 issue. There aren’t many other people in the fashion industry that would make more sense next to the “Dream Big” tagline, are there? The cover was captured by everyone’s most controversial big dreamer, Terry Richardson. The issue will hit newsstands in four days (September 21st).
PSH! First I post a Best of Tumblr dedicated to photobooths and then Karl Lagerfeld decides to shoot Freja Beha Erichsen in a photobooth for his Fall/Winter 2011 Chanel campaign? COINCIDENCE? Well, yes. I must say, it feels pretty good to have the same direction/appreciation as the photoshoot’s stylist – and my personal hero – Carine Roitfeld. View Post
