Vaseline is one of those ‘magic products’ that cure almost any beauty ailment. Make-up remover, lip moisturizer, highlighter, night cream (when heated), eyebrow tamer, eyelash conditoner, the list goes on and on!
The smell, though? Nothing to write home about. Until now. As a complete creme brulee addict, I was thrilled to find out that after their Aloe Vera and Rosy tint releases, the brand has now released a limited edition Creme Brulee scent! Limited edition at Selfridges (also online) only, for just £2.99.
Finally – some sun! I have been back in London just under a week and have spent all but one day in traditional British Summer weather (rain and/or cold and/or wind). When the lovely people at The Chelsea Day Spa invited me to test out some new technology in tanning, you better believe my unwillingly sun-detoxed skin was wailing “yes! yes! yes!”.
Said technology? The Vita Liberata tan. Organic and paraben free, the nourishing spray tan takes about ten minutes to be applied and can deliver anything from a light glow to a Hawaii-esque colour.
Unfortunately, even after waiting twenty minutes longer than I had scheduled after the tan, I had to brave a monsoon-like Kings Road upon leaving. Any spray-tan alumni will know that you should never exercise/swim/shower for roughly 8 hours after your treatment or you will become streaky and patchy.
Cue Lela London running – braless – down the street as the top layer of her tan is literally running down her arms and legs onto both her dress and Balenciaga city bag. Even better? The drippy hour-long commute that followed. I thought it was over. I was mentally planning a wardrobe of full bodysuits for the week ahead.
Miraculously, as I toweled off and rubbed tons of moisturiser in roughly two hours later, the streaks disappeared. Vita Liberata not only turned into a stunning glow that was complimented multiple times over the next few days, but it didn’t streak in a rainstorm. Miracle treatment.
Luckily, The Chelsea Day Spa has combined the customizable tanning treatment with two other A-list delights in a new signature package called “BBB – Beach Body Beautiful“. The make-over combines Vita Liberata with underarm, bikini, eyebrow & full leg waxing and a New York manicure & pedicure. All for only £99. I am starting to realize Britney Spears can do no wrong in my eyes. Even though many elements of her latest video – “I Wanna Go” – are eyebrow raise-inducing, the dark sense of humour and tongue in cheek references Britney The Brand more than redeem her.
What goes on? Cyborgs, a Mickey Mouse-ears wearing skeleton, Guillermo from Weeds seductively pouring milk over his body, an easter egg for “Crossroads 2: Cross Harder”, a Thriller eyeball homage, a paparazzi cuss-out, a quote from “Half Baked”, and a punked out Baby One More Time-esque schoolgirl outfit (with spiked Louboutins and studded Doc Martens!)
Wacky, wonderful, and a pretty flawless tune by Britney standards (no point in expecting the vocal solidarity of Adele or the whimsical grooves of of Montreal, right?).
Big announcement with little press: fashion favourite Lauren Conrad has been ‘guest editing’ Allure‘s Facebook page this week and recently updated with “My new beauty site is launching right now!”
We all raised an eyebrow. New beauty site? Well, it’s here! The Beauty Department – a collaboration with hair stylist Kristen Ess and makeup artist Amy Nadine – is a beauty blog with tips, trends and more. Though it’s a baby for now, it’s set to be a guilty pleasure for both those who watched her grow up on TV, and the online mass of pretty people looking towards the beauty future. Good luck, LC!
Thanks to Tyra Banks and The CW, the world gets another cycle – cycle sixteen – of America’s Next Top Model. With the network’s release of the first cast photo, my raise-eyebrow-trigger went off. While only the first names of the wannabe models have been released, the beautiful blonde on the bottom left is definitely Kasia Pileciwz. This wouldn’t be an eyebrow-worthy find if Kasia wasn’t already a plus-size model (signed with Wilhemina Models) and Top Model contestants were not prohibited from agency representation during their participation. Wilhemina says she’s “on hiatus”. Are we to assume they will have her back if she doesn’t win the famed modelling contract with IMG and a spread in Italian Vogue? Is this fair to the other contestants?
