Valentino Virtual Museum

    • Get ready to take a private tour of the Valentino archive on any device that connects to the internet! Serious talk. Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti have just announced the launch of the “Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum“. The desktop application will showcase over 300 dresses from the designer’s archive, organised as if it were an actual museum, and integrated with sketches, editorials, as well as various means of press coverage. The app will be available here from December 5th.
    • Looking for Pippa Middleton’s bridesmaid dress? This Alexander McQueen number is the closest you’re probably ever going to get. Same designer – Miss (Fabulous) Sarah Burton – with a few missing lace inserts.
    • Paul Smith won the Outstanding Achievement Award at the British Fashion Awards, following in the footsteps of greats such as John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, and Alexander McQueen.
    • For Fall/Winter 2012, Stella McCartney will show a special collection for the London Fashion Week show calendar. As creative director of the 2012 Olympics, the (little) details shared so far have explained that the “one-off” show will be part of concerted promotional efforts relating to The Games. Back on home turf! Yes!
    • 90-year-old fashion designer Iris Apfel is collaborating up with eyebobs to design a collection of midrange reading glasses, sun readers, and polarized sunglasses! The collection is set to be released in 2013, though a limited edition frame – the “Iris” – will be available in three different colours come Spring. A portion of proceeds will also be donated to vision loss charity Lighthouse International – SO GET BUYING!

“I was in the Beverly Hills Hotel, and let me tell you there’s always some mad project going on in my bedroom when I’m there. Ha! I had parchment papers spread all over the floor and all sorts of different powders and watercolors that I was mixing together. I was painting for so long on that floor. When the pieces were done, I packed them all in my suitcase to show MAC.”

Beyonce Wedding Dress

Beyonce in her wedding dress

  • Excuse me while I wipe away some salty, embarrassing tears. Beyoncé‘s latest music video is one of my forever favourites. “I Was Here (Live at Roseland)” is essentially a montage of important and meaningful experiences in her life, and we even get to catch a look at Beyonce in her wedding dress (made by her mom, Tina Knowles) for the first time in almost four years. Watch…or I’ll cry again.

  • Thanks to Missoni, I’m sure, Target‘s third-quarter sales are up 3.4 percent.

  • For London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2012, the official sponsor is changing from Canon to Vodafone UK.

  • Though it comes as no surprise, it is still a little sad to hear that Claridge’s (the London hotel) has let go of John Galliano in regards to his long-time affair designing their annual Christmas decorations. Thankfully, we can still look forward to something spectacular, as the job has been handed over to Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz. Anyone else hoping he shows up in a Santa suit for the press reveal?

  • Moda Operandi have wooed their way into another big-hitter’s staff resources! This week, Ashley Bryan (head of marketing and sales for Net-a-Porter in the US) has announced an immediate move to take on the role of Moda Operandi’s chief marketing officer. Fun fact: she is also the daughter of Anna Wintour’s longtime boyfriend, communications executive Shelby Bryan.

  • Costello Tagliapietra is going to release a diffusion line! For Spring/Summer 2012, new line “C&T” will offer 13 dresses that retail for $298 a piece.

  • This has made my weekend! After months of waiting to see something from the film adaptation of “The Great Gatsby“, we have a photo of Australian model Gemma Ward on the set! Gemma plays Catherine – the sister of Myrtle Wilson (Isla Fisher) – and looks picture perfect in pin curls and full ‘20s attire. The costumes are going to be out of this world; I can’t wait to see the ensembles of Carey Mulligan, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tobey Maguire, as well.

  • Lauren Bush and David Lauren‘s wedding photos: revealed! Major, vintage-esque swoons over at Vogue.
  • Christian Dior SS12
With a controversial couture collection under his belt, Dior’s temporary stand-in for John Galliano – fashion designer Bill Gaytten – showed an excellent compendium of uncompromised quality for the label’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

Gaytten showed ‘wow’ pieces without a Galliano-type ‘wow’, and I think that is what truly made this special. By choosing a ‘safer’, more classic aesthetic, the tailoring and construction shone through and left us with countless options for future investment pieces. Expert draping, the creamiest gazar, classic bar jackets and much more. Check out Karlie Kloss in the finale look of sheer organza, if your wallet dares.

    Nicki Minaj Fashion Week

  • Nicki Minaj is Harajuku Barbie – this we all know – but no-one expected Harajuku Barbie to show up at New York Fashion Week. Nonetheless, Miss Minaj turned up to the Prabal Gurung show in a couture-ish cocktail, shouting crazy from Shojono Tomo-printed leggings to an enormous pink bow atop her head. Oh, the times I wish I could read Anna Wintour‘s mind.

  • Victoria Beckham is awesome. She sat in the front row at her own show and was chatting with her guests/attendees.

  • Forever 21 is selling a T-shirt for girls that says “Allergic to Algebra” on it. Make of that what you will.

  • The prequel to Sex and the City, The Carrie Diaries, is going into production as a TV series on the CW! (It only took three years to confirm the rumour?) Former “Sex and The City” writer Amy Harris has been confirmed to be taking part by Deadline, and Candace Bushnell (the brains behind Sex and The City, Lipstick Jungle, The Carrie Diaries etc) will be executive producer. Gossip Girl executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are also on board.

  • While no-one has yet had the cajones to confirm any of the goings on at Dior, John Galliano‘s replacement has recently been widely reported to be Marc Jacobs. Neither Marc Jacobs nor LVMH are talking, but because of the increased responsibility that comes with the creative director position at Dior (that would be two couture shows, plus regular and pre-season collections), Marc Jacobs and partner Robert Duffy are asking for a package that will put their salary in the “low eight digits” (over $10 million LARGE).

  • Steve Madden has tapped the world’s favourite style twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, to be the new creative directors for Superga North America! This isn’t just a ‘slap a celebrity name on it’ deal; this means the savvy sisters will oversee all creative and marketing initiatives, as well as have oversight for distribution.

“We hope to introduce a fresh perspective to this iconic collection, while honoring Superga’s legacy of timeless design.”
    Ashley Olsen

  • Tyra Banks is crazy. The All-Stars cycle of America’s Next Top Model, starting Wednesday 9/8c on The CW, is going to own my life.

  • Kardashian Lingerie

  • I’m not quite sure how this happened, but esteemed photographer Annie Leibovitz is now shooting Sears catalogs. Not just any Sears catalog, but a “Kardashian Kollection” catalog. For a woman who has taken some truly iconic photographs (Johnny Depp and Kate Moss on the bedsheets, anyone?), this is one of the worst Photoshop jobs I’ve ever seen. Though Khloe Kardashian is 8 inches taller than her 5ft 2inch-tall sisters, Kim and Kourtney, her proportions are almost identical in the image. Not only that, but Kim’s copied and pasted physique is in completely different lighting to the others. Fakery on this scale is only going to have a negative impact on sales; you just have no visual reference to what you’re really buying.
  • According to his lawyer, John Galliano won’t be in court when the verdict in his anti-semitic rant case is handed down on Thursday, September 8th.
  • “Move over brick and mortar expansion tactics, retailers are finally realizing that bottom line growth isn’t always going to come by swelling square footage. Zara and H&M are taking their fast fashion competition online, while Urban Outfitters is jumping into F-commerce (making their Facebook fan page shoppable).”
  • One of my favourite British footwear designers, Nicholas Kirkwood, is set to open a 1,500-square-foot store – his first in the U S of A – at 807 Washington Street in early 2012.
