floral print trousers
After deciding to spend the entire day parading around in a skirt, the weather decided to hang out at roughly 8°C since I left the house today. Turns out, it was a lucky misfortune. What better opportunity/excuse could there be to buy some floral-print trousers?

(Pictured: MTV print tee, H&M cigarette pants, and handmade heels. Though I kind of want to add these and these to my collection, now…)

P.S. Excuse the office/bomb site.

Versace for H&M

This week, the Versace x H&M lookbook was finally released. Thankfully, it did not disappoint in any way! The 50-piece collection features dresses, skirts, leggings, scarves, handbags, shoes, belts, menswear, jewelry, and even homeware. Impressively, many of the prints, products and palettes seem to have been drawn almost straight from the archives. Value for money, in my eyes!

That said, it isn’t going to translate as ‘value‘ if we go out and buy everything at once (…note to self). Above, I have compiled some of my favourite pieces that I believe will work both alltogether and also add something special to many outfits when separated. Characteristic Versace: on the cheap (I can’t wait)!

Sofia Coppola

  • Sofia Coppola got married to (Pheonix frontman) Thomas Mars! The blushing bride wore a gauzed-out lavender print wedding dress by Azzedine Alaïa and had her hair wavy and unstyled with a red lip to ice the cake. The groom wore navy and Big Daddy (Francis Ford Coppola) wore a white linen suit and pink shirt.
  • Isaac Mizrahi has announced he won’t be showing at NYFW. He let us know – via video blog – that he will be putting out a lookbook instead, joking that it sounds “more modern…for about one second. Next season we’ll be planning our fabulous Lollapalooza fashion show in 3D.”
  • Karl Lagerfeld is releasing a fragrance called….wait for it…Karleidescope. LOLZ aside, the fragrance is set to be “ultra feminine” and will include notes of violet, patchouli, angelica and freesia that are rumoured to smell different on each woman.
  • Miranda Kerr’s beauty secret? Four teaspoons of coconut oil, taken orally. Now you know. Have a brilliant time trying to locate it after a Victoria’s Secret model endorses it. ;)
  • Almost 300 Cambodian workers fell sick this week at a garment factory that produces goods for Swedish fashion brand H&M. A total of 284 employees collapsed on Tuesday and Thursday at M&V International Manufacturing Ltd in Kompong Chhnang.
  • Zac Posen is taking his show back to New York after moving to Paris a year ago to show his eponymous collection to the European audience. His Spring/Summer 2012 offering will be shown at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall on September 11th. As always, the New Yorker’s diffusion line – Z Spoke by Zac Posen – will be shown in his hometown, as well.
  • Following the raging success of the “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” exhibit, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is suggesting the Costume Institute’s the 2012 exhibit will revolve around Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli and will open next Spring. OH, YES.
  • Bambi Northwood Blyth Free People
Elite model and Lela London favourite, Bambi Northwood Blyth, signed on to be the face of Free People‘s Pre-Fall 2011 lookbook and looks as bushy-browed and beautiful as ever. Note: the toy Bambi.

Also, I definitely prefer Free People’s creepers to Prada’s. This is a peculiar designer stance. You’ll still never catch me wearing them*.

    Express

    Marketing Genius of Express Bags

Fashion retailer Express have a very, very bon marketing department. For the past few seasons they have been propelling the trend of public fashion shows – in New York, Miami and Las Vegas – and are now taking things a step further.

They are casting you as a model. This coming Saturday (the 23rd of July), Express are inviting anyone who can get to Times Square (NYC) between the hours of 9-6 to walk on their public runway. No height, weight, or any other requirements. Guinness Book of World Records representatives will be there as they attempt to break the world record for most people to walk a catwalk.

Currently, the record is held by Galeries Lafayette, who have had 521 people walk down their runway. I hope some Lela London readers can make it and break the record with them! Express will also be holding an actual runway show at 9pm that same evening to showcase (and simultaneously shoot the lookbook for) their holiday collection. Fun for all!
