Because I didn’t have a schedule fit to attend Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2012, I thought my reviews of the Fashion Week weren’t going to be worth putting on the blog.

That is, until Romance Was Born unveiled their Spring/Summer collection in collaboration with MARVEL. (Yes, I’m a comic nerd). As the show that kicked off Australia’s Fashion Week, this collaboration couldn’t have been any more ballsy. Romance Was Born sent their superhero-splashed models out against a paper-pop up set worthy of The Avengers. The collection – “Berserkergang” (a state of unbeatable warrior power) – rocked a graphic artist appeal and even incorporated Jack Kirby’s famous dot technique and the process of CMYK (Cyan Magenta Yellow Key) printing.

One half of Romance Was Born, Anna Plunkett, said, “having access to such incredible graphic archives has been so exciting. The MARVEL group has been really supportive in helping us reach our creative vision. It’s been a terrific process seeing the collection come to life, and a real privilege to work with such an incredible respected and creative company!”

Backstage Fashion Week
In only one week from today we will be kicking off the Spring/Summer 2012 collection previews from the four major international fashion cities – New York, London, Milan and Paris – with Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City. Not even Hurricane Irene could keep the crowds away. For your fashion perusal, here is a compilation of all the New York shows from the 8th to the 15th of September. After that? LONDON’S TURN! • It’s official! One of the greatest shows ever made, Absolutely Fabulous, is coming back! In the words of Joanna Lumley (aka Patsy Stone – a woman who hasn’t eaten since 1973), both lead characters are “very old and nearly dead and practically plugged into vodka machines”. Actress Jennifer Saunders (aka Edina Monsoon – born Edwina, but changed her name to Edina because it’s chic-er), who also writes the series, has confirmed that production had begun on three new specials that will feature Saffy, Bubble and many surprise guests: “Like a good bottle of Champagne, we hope that we have got better with time without losing any of our sparkle. Last week when we started filming in dear old west London, it was as if nothing had changed. It was raining. Nevertheless, we are so happy to be working for an audience that has grown just a tiny bit older like us but is still willing to let us fall over on TV in the name of P.R.”
  • Hermès has reported a 42 percent rise in net profits in the first half of this financial year. Nice.
  • Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (better known as NYFW) starts in exactly one week. The event is once again partnering with Maybelline and YouTube to offer live online streams of over 30 runway shows at Lincoln Center. Today, coverage has kicked off from the Live from the Runway channel, and they will also be releasing backstage beauty insights, recaps, and trend forecasting.
  • Former reality TV star (The Hills and The City) and current fashion designer Whitney Port is making a move into the world of romantic comedies! She will star in the ensemble cast of “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” which is also made up of Cheryl Cole, Anna Kendrick, Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Banks, Jennifer Lopez, Chase Crawford, and many more young stars!
  • Westfield Stratford is set to open on September 13th (just in time for London Fashion Week!) In their viral promo, they have wrapped up 100 years of fashion in 100 seconds and it is incredibly cute.
