Rachel Bilson may naturally be ‘nother-level hot, but her make-up routine is fairly basic. Since her glory days playing Summer Roberts on The O.C., Rachel always seems to play characters that bat heavily-lined eyes and lashes at The Protagonistic Hottie. Why mess with a good thing, right?

While Southern Alabama and Southern California certainly aren’t equal matches in the style stakes, Rachel’s latest role as Zoe Hart in small town-celebratory “Hart of Dixie” keeps her make-up look tried and true.

Though the head makeup artist on the show – Joni Powel – uses a lot of earth-toned CARGO Cosmetics palettes on Rachel, I have recreated the look using a variationof my favourite products, below.

Rachel Bilson/Zoe Hart Makeup Tutorial

1. Throw on a BB cream! As a doctor, Zoe Hart has no need to be running around in a full face of foundation. (Try Dior Hydra Life BB Cream).
2. If needed, set your BB cream with a translucent matte powder. (Try Sunday Riley’s Soft Focus Finishing Powder.)
3. Using a blush brush, lightly sweep a burnt pink shade underneath the apples of your cheeks and towards your hairline. Anything with a hint of brown will help emphasize your cheekbones. (Try Natio Rosewood blush.)
4. Prime your eyelids – and the line underneath your lower lash line – to help your eyeshadow/liner stay in place. (Try By Terry Hyaluronic eye primer.)
5. Use a coper eyeshadow over your lid. Because Rachel has quite a deep eye socket she blends the eyeshadow above her crease to ensure it doesn’t get lost behind her eyelashes. Alter your blending to suit your eye shape as I have done below. (Try Too Faced Copper Peony eyeshadow.)
6. Line those eyes! Using a kohl pencil, line your waterline, tightline, and slightly extend your upper lash line. Blend the line under your lower lash line to prevent it from looking too hard. (Try Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Pencil and By Terry’s Eyeliner brush.)
7. Groom your eyebrows. Mine are much darker than Rachel’s and would look far too heavy if filled in to match her brow shape, but if you have a light brow I would advise filling them in a little thicker than normal. (Try Clarins Pro Palette Eyebrow Kit.)
8. Throw on a light pink lipbalm. Finger, brush…use whatever you have around! (Try Cover FX MintTint in Pink Copper.)
9. Mascara! (Try Eyeko Black Magic mascara.)

Enjoy!

Rachel Bilson Nylon
As a long-time fan of Rachel Bilson‘s style (I’ve been told I remind people of her for roughly 7 years?! COMPLIMENT), I couldn’t be more happy to see her at the front of new hit TV show “Hart of Dixie“. This also means more fashion snaps, of course, and my favourite thus far is Nylon‘s cover for November 2011 (shot by Marvin Scott Jarrett)!

Beauty-wise, we have Davy Newkirk on hair, Amy Nadine on make-up (adore her work), and Stephanie Harmon on manicure. When it comes to the fashion choices, the stylist duo of Michelle Reneau and Beth Hoppe a top and skirt from Marc Jacobs and DKNY jacket. Beautiful.

Rachel Bilson ShoeMint

  • Rachel Bilson recently announced that she is teaming up with stylist Nicole Chavez to launch ShoeMint, a JewelMint-inspired line of shoes which will only be available online. And we already have a preview! The actress gave us a look at one of her designs today when she stepped out in a pair of suede, platform Mary Janes. The heels will be available on ShoeMint.com this November for only $79.99!

  • Tyra Banks is a New York Times best-selling author. This is not a fire drill. The ex-supermodel’s debut novel, Modelland, has launched in the number two spot on the New York Times’ bestseller list for children’s chapter books.

  • Olivia Palermo‘s blog – eponymous by name, eponymous by nature – has finally launched! The first few entries consist of a welcome post, an ode to La Dolce Vita and Stubbs & Wootton, “How to Rock: Leather Shorts”, and much more. With over ten members of staff, it looks like it will be quite something!

  • California has just passed a bill which will make it illegal for children and teens under the age of 18 to use a tanning bed. It’s the first state to do so (and hallelujah, may I add).
  • Emma Watson
Thanks to a Nylon magazine special-edition Zune was gifted to me about six years ago, I have had a daily reminder of the quasi fashion magazine. The magazine – like the mp3 player – is chic, quirky, and youthful. In fact, their Best Dressed List for 2010 runs along that same theme. The list is a good one, with the exception of Blake Lively who requires a stylist…stat. Let’s remember, Nylon, good individual items do not qualify an entity into the best dressed list.

    1. Emma Watson
    2. Alexa Chung
    3. Blake Lively
    4. Rachel Bilson
    5. Leighton Meester
    6. Carey Mulligan
    7. Alison Mosshart
    8. Mary Kate Olsen
    9. Zooey Deschanel
    10. Natalie Portman

“There are random moments —tossing a salad, coming up the driveway to the house, ironing the seams flat on a quilt square, standing at the kitchen window and looking out at the delphiniums, hearing a burst of laughter from one of my children’s rooms— when I feel a wavelike rush of joy. This is my true religion: arbitrary moments of nearly painful happiness for a life I feel privileged to lead. Think of the way you sometimes see a tiny shaft of sunlight burst through a gap between rocks, the way it then expands to illuminate a much larger space —it’s like that. And it’s like quilting, a thread surfacing and then disappearing into the fabric of ordinary days. It’s not always visible, but it’s what holds everything together.”
