Marketing Genius of Express Bags
Fashion retailer Express
have a very, very bon
marketing department. For the past few seasons they have been propelling the trend of public fashion shows
– in New York, Miami and Las Vegas – and are now taking things a step further.
They are casting you as a model. This coming Saturday (the 23rd of July), Express are inviting anyone who can get to Times Square (NYC) between the hours of 9-6 to walk on their public runway. No height, weight, or any other requirements. Guinness Book of World Records representatives will be there as they attempt to break the world record for most people to walk a catwalk.
Currently, the record is held by Galeries Lafayette, who have had 521 people walk down their runway. I hope some Lela London readers can make it and break the record with them! Express will also be holding an actual runway show at 9pm that same evening to showcase (and simultaneously shoot the lookbook for) their holiday collection. Fun for all!

It’s Gucci, mane
. After the great Gucci vs. Prada
Spring/Summer 2011 debate, I realised that this gold dress
was getting as much cover time as that ever-present white eyelet dress
from Dolce & Gabbana
. In the Gucci showcase below we have Beyonce Knowles
on L’Officiel, Naomi Campbell
on Vogue Japan, and Luca Gadjus
on German Glamour (where they truly cheapened the garment through a typography fail). It was destined for a Fashion Spot
. To me, the brand is textural glamour
; nothing needs to be happening except for garment focus. Hope you like it!

I am a terminal Tumblr addict. Pre-internet, I was addicted to the art and study of organizational magazine clippings. Now combining social media with the world-wide love of aesthetic expression, Tumblr’s leading microblogging platform is part of my ‘daily routine’. Being my favourite source of blissful, indulgent inspiration, I am here with a new project – ‘Best of Tumblr‘ – to showcase some of my best photo discoveries and Tumblrs once a week. Let the beauty begin! View Post
There was lots of straightforward subtlety on showcase at BCBG yesterday. Continuing their Spring/Summer trend, the Fall/Winter show was full of sensible, simple pieces over white turtlenecks. While I think it’s great to see Celine-like minimalism at a friendlier price point, Max and Lubov Azria should be worried that they are alienating their trend-happy, versatile customers. I’ve worked for Azria, and know that these type of pieces just don’t sell through their concessions. The five best pieces are below. View Post
The lovely Turkish blog Zet Fashion won a competition to showcase the new Lanvin for H&M trailer and is sweetly ecstatic about it. In the new trailer, a stand in for Alber Elbaz works frantically to create some sketches – though Elbaz makes an appearance, as well. The designs aren’t clear but the trailer itself is like a sartorial version of The Shining.
