This week is Cannes Film Festival (a best dressed list is in the making), a week renowned for being full of the latest and greatest in fashion. They have to be pretty peeved that Penelope Cruz has stolen all the style, eh? Last night, she flew solo at the “Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” premiere in Munich, Germany while wearing this lustful red Armani Privé Spring/Summer 2011 gown. Differing from the runway version, the actress took the dress from off-shoulder straps to long sleeved and I’ve never seen a sexier alteration.
It’s Gucci, mane. After the great Gucci vs. Prada Spring/Summer 2011 debate, I realised that this gold dress was getting as much cover time as that ever-present white eyelet dress from Dolce & Gabbana. In the Gucci showcase below we have Beyonce Knowles on L’Officiel, Naomi Campbell on Vogue Japan, and Luca Gadjus on German Glamour (where they truly cheapened the garment through a typography fail). It was destined for a Fashion Spot. To me, the brand is textural glamour; nothing needs to be happening except for garment focus. Hope you like it!
Yes! Leighton Meester is back on the style circuit. Above, we have the official ad for Vera Wang’s “Lovestruck” fragrance – shot by Carter Smith – which Leighton is the spokesmodel for. The ad is a little bit Pretty Woman and unnecessarily Photoshopped, though brush off-able. C’mon, it’s Leighton.
For the fragrance launch, Meester wore a Vera Wang Pre-Spring 2011 top and pants, Roger Vivier shoes, and Cathy Waterman jewellery.
Later on, she joined Vera Wang to light up the Empire State Building. The landmark was illuminated in red and white to raise awareness about DKMS, the world’s largest bone marrow donor center. With ombre hair, Leighton paired a beige Vera Wang Fall/Winter 2011 sleeveless top with a body-lengthening Vera Wang Spring/Summer 2011 floral print skirt. Toffee-coloured Brian Atwood “Debra” slingbacks completed her outfit.
FINALLY – yes, this is all in one day – she attended the DKMS Gala in a Vera Wang Pre-Fall 2011 dress, Cathy Waterman Diamond Leaf Drop Earrings, and the same Brian Atwood heels. Let’s hope she had today off.
Both collections from Prada and Gucci for Spring/Summer 2011 have been PRed heavily across the globe; you would have to be blind not to notice. Check out the media domination above and below. With five more designer-clad images put into the mix since the collages were made, Prada – at forty two covers – has one more cover than Gucci. Both were incredibly strong showings – which collection did you prefer?
Mario Testino took a break from snapping Prince William and Kate Middleton to lens the latest Spring/Summer 2011 campaign from Burberry, featuring British beauties Sophie Kennedy-Clark and Matthew Beard.
“We wanted to create a dynamic campaign that reflects the diversity of our broad global consumer, revealing new British cast members each month, all with their own identity, embodying the different attitudes of the Burberry guy and girl. We shot the campaign on Brighton Beach to celebrate the great British outdoors and our history of supporting emerging talent and to bring to life the emotion behind protection from the elements.”
