youtube mukbang eating show
Before visiting her family back in Italy, my beloved Alice and I got into a conversation about the ‘norms’ of our upbringings (in Italy and America, respectively) and – more specifically – their sweet treats.

Realising neither of us had tried any sweets across the seas that once separated us, we met up back in London and mukbanged them all on camera for your viewing pleasure.

From Warheads Extreme Sour Candy to Pocket Coffee, this fail of ‘Italian vs American Candy‘ is everything you could expect and so much more…watch here!

Though the month was comandeered by all things work-related, I promised myself I would do at least one Vlogmas this year so made a point to take one day off and treat myself to a little festive fun.

The tomfoolery kicked off with a trip to get my very neglected travel-worn mane fixed by my beloved Jason Collier (Creative Director of the Matthew Curtis Hair Salon at Rosewood London), who you may remember from my glory days with My Little Pony hair.

Vicki (of Honest Mum) and I both love Jason, in fact, so by the time he whipped our differing locks into personal perfection, we were ready to take the day by storm.

After checking in to the Royal Garden Hotel and indulging in a little room service, we Ubered ourselves to the launch of Portobello Road Gin‘s four-floor boutique gin hotel (and then some), The Distillery. The hotel plays home to a working distillery, two bars, a gin museum, an off-licence and a gin-making experience dubbed ‘The Ginstitute’. More than enough to keep us busy for a night and more than enough to take us through to a stunning breakfast at the Royal Garden, lots of work, a manicure, Christmas catch-up, very late lunch, and a holiday party.

But that’s just the top line. Click to watch (above) and have a very merry Christmas, indeed!

Richard Chai Spring Summer 2012

Richard Chai Spring/Summer 2012

Though it kicked off today, not all of us can be at New York Fashion Week (after workaholicly adding yet another job title to the business card, AHEM) right now. Good news for those outside of the industry (or country)? More labels are live-streaming their shows than ever before! I have compiled a list of over fifty Spring/Summer 2012 presentations that you will be able to view in real-time as they parade collections parade down the runway! This is a post worth bookmarking, fashionistas.

Chad Hurley
Chad Hurley – the co-founder of YouTube – has stepped down from his position as CEO of the company to work full-time on his menswear label, Hlaska. In the most basic of reviews, the clothes are overpriced. There are plain hoodies for $135, boring blazers for $425, and canvas belts for $75.00; it’s just a completely uninspiring snooze fest. I don’t understand how a business mind can hope to make this work.

“We make wallets, bags and shirts we’d want to see sold in stores. In that sense it’s exactly like YouTube. We wanted something that wasn’t available, so we built it ourselves,” Hurley said, except that…yes…plenty of wallets, bags, and shirts are available. In a struggling economy. For less.

The name? “It’s a combination of Hawaii and Alaska. My business partner, Anthony Mazzei, and I love the dichotomy. Alaska and Hawaii are hot and cold states, small and large, and represent the last of America’s expansion. It’s that tension that we love.”

Tension, indeed. All I can do is wish him the best and continue to support my boyfriend’s choice of cheaper and better quality garments.

Long Hair Extensions
I have talked to you about my obsession with hair. Now, it’s time to talk about length. I am an absolute sucker for long hair and after cutting my hair a while ago, I am beyond eager to grow it all back. Of course, the other option is hair extensions.

Trouble is, I had hair extensions a long time ago and wanted to rip them out of my head (I ended up doing so a week later). Choosing between a few different methods, I thought I would be too clueless for clip-ins so the fusion technique would be best. Boy, was I wrong. Though it was done by someone with a great reputation, the glue bonds made my hair heavy, painful and in major need of conditioning. What I didn’t know then was that micro rings are the answer.

Micro rings cause no damage to your natural hair and are completely without glue or weave. The jist is that a strand of extension hair is placed with a strand of your hair – creating a single combined strand – then placed inside the ring and closed flat to tightly hold the extension hair to your natural hair. These rings weigh nothing more than an extra strand of hair and are almost invisible (no chunky glue!). Since there is no chemical process to remove or maintain them, they can also last well over three months.

Important Tips

– Ask around. Read tons of reviews. The hair extension industry is prone to people who have no idea what they are doing (check Youtube for horror stories if you dare).
– Do not try and do it yourself. You can’t 360 your head like a trained professional.
– The only no-no for micro ring users would be to brush your hair starting from the top. You would be brushing a tiny ring. Otherwise, it acts like normal hair.
Hair quality. The scam artists of the industry are known to use plastic or plastic/real combination hair of very poor quality. You have the right to see and touch the hair.
– You get what you pay for. If it seems too good to be true, or you’re getting charged a flat rate for any length you choose, you are being taken. It is common sense to know the longer the hair, the more it will cost.

In my research, almost everyone I’ve spoken to in the industry has said the best hair extensions in London are done by Hairextensionaires. Jacqui – the sole owner – has clients travel internationally to get their hair done by her. She is so talented she can even work with those suffering from hair loss; with years of experience and well-priced service, she is renowned as the key to healthy, heavenly hair. It is time to start saving the pounds, ladies!
