Grey Hair, With Care

grey hair
Since bleaching my way from blonde to grey hair in June, the upkeep has proven as high-maintenance as fellow bleached babes forewarned. Having gone a bit too long between touch-ups and a bit too careless with complimentary conditioners while travelling (purple shampoo saves lives), my hair deserved a bit of a reboot…

HT by Sakurami

The first super-essential stop was a trip to HT by Sakurami in Chelsea for a root touch-up, tone, and cut. As it was my first-ever visit, I was slightly intimidated but had high hopes from genuinely impressive word ofmouth.

The salon’s main floor is small but chic and leads to an impressive underground spa area; ideal for the type of woman who wants space to boss through a few hours of work while being preened to perfection (aka me). After talking through my wants and toner samples, my lovely stylist coloured my locks in the least-damaging but beautiful way (even using a special toner which nourishes hair while adding insane cool tones) and carefully sliced my shapeless curls into bouncier, healthier waves.

If you dream of leaving your next salon visit with #hairporn-worthy locks, you must book in at HT by Sakurami.

Olaplex (at ColourNation)

For part two of my grey hair reboot I waited a few days for HT’s beautiful colour to settle and booked in to try Olaplex at ColourNation Oxford Circus between meetings.

There has been a real buzz surrounding Olaplex in the US; the brand’s synonymous treatment is essentially a single active ingredient that dramatically eliminates hair breakage and strengthens colour-treated hair with unparalleled and scientifically-proven results.

Still, I have bleached and blacked my hair back-and-forth for years. If there was ever a head of hair designed to test the treatment, mine was it.

As well as being silicone, sulfate, phthalate, DEA, and aldehyde-free, Olaplex’s unique ingredient works to reconnect the damaged bonds within your hair (often broken during thermal, mechanical and chemical hairdressing services) which will, in turn, also help hair colour last longer.

Results? Incredible. My hair is now more manageable than it was even pre-HT by Sakurami and felt practically unbleached after less than one hour (treatment and blow-dry). It is a complete and utter game-changer.
