As much as I love the delirious haze of fashion seasons, there is much to love about designers that create transeasonal collections. Renée Lacroix and Zahra Ash-Harper are two such women who launched their ‘slow fashion’ label, ANTITHESIS, last month. Dubbed “The Carry On Closet”, the collection is aimed at empowering cosmopolitan women through a 10-piece transformable capsule collection. Commendably, the duo have also used high quality materials (all locally manufactured and sourced) to encourage conscious consumption towards our sustainable fashion future.
In an issue dedicated to celebrating the relationship between music and fashion, V magazine’s “The Queen Of Hip Hop” editorial appropriately features a top, skirt and shoes from Kanye West‘s debut collection.
The former managing director of Hermes France, Bruno Guillon, has recently joined British fashion label Mulberry as their new chief executive. He plans to help heavily transition the brand into Asian markets.
Boardwalk Empire actor Michael Pitt is the official face of Prada’s Spring/Summer 2012 menswear campaign – a David Sims-lensed look at the golden age Hollywood icon. According to the brand, Pitt “explores the language of male role models from the rock star to the playboy, from the self-reflective introvert to the engaging and humorous farceur. […] Contemporary men work when they play and play when they work. The boundaries are no longer clear – as the campaign’s simple props and gestures emphasize.”
Unfortunately, I can only see him as a psychopath. Thanks, Funny Games.

DKNY is supplying the New York Rangers with their practice jerseys for the rest of the season! Never before have I wanted to be a hockey player!
GQ has awarded Jared Leto with the title of 2011’s worst dressed man, for looking “extravagantly terrible all year long.”
Though cotton topped out at $2.12 this year, prices have just dropped to 86.4 cents a pound. A step in the right direction!
Who’s face/body/photoshopping earned magazines the most moolah, this year? Jennifer Aniston, Heidi Klum, and Sarah Jessica Parker!
Sarah Jessica Parker‘s Elle, Vogue, and Marie Claire covers were the second or third best-sellers for each publication; Heidi Klum‘s Lucky and Glamour covers were both magazines’ second best performers, and Jennifer Aniston gave Marie Claire its best-selling issue in July and pulled in major sales for her November Elle cover.
Who didn’t do so well? Reese Witherspoon, whose covers marked below-average sales for Vogue, Marie Claire, and Glamour. Interestingly, magazines with Kim Kardashian on the cover were doing well in the beginning of 2011, yet as her so-called ‘sham’ marriage unfolded the numbers have started to look very poor.
Singer John Legend proposed to model Chrissy Teigen this past weekend while they were on vacation in the Maldives! WEDDING PHOTO EXCITEMENT.
Alessandra Ambrosio just announced that she is pregnant with her second child! The model and her fiance, Jamie Mazur, already have a 3-year-old, and are looking forward to adding another member to the family in five months time.
Yes, that does mean she was pregnant with strutting her flawless body down the Victorias Secret Fashion Show runway. Weep with me.
I’m sure the only way you don’t know about this is if you purposefully avoid the news, but eh, I’m giving my two cents on the ‘Beyonce Fake Pregnancy‘ enchilada.
Apparently, some reliable sources (aka everyone’s eyes) saw Beyonce’s baby bump shift and fold in two during an appearance on Sunday Night HD.
The alleged prosthetic baby was pretty obvious as a fake. No belly – of that size – has the ability to do that. Even if made of fat.
But riddle me this, instead of shouting ‘Beyonce is a Fake!’, might it be worth considering she would wear extra padding simply to avoid the media ‘bump watch’ that plagues most celebrity women?
Conde Nast have kicked it up a notch. The magazine moguls of Vogue and other major titles have decided to start developing television and online programming based on Conde Nast personalities, articles, and general brands. This entertainment division will be headed by Dawn Ostroff, the powerhouse that who helped develop major hits like Gossip Girl and America’s Next Top Model. Movies will also be a focus once it is off the ground. Hello, The September Issue 2!
The most – dare I say – famous blogger in the world has landed her second cover of L’Officiel! This time, Tavi Gevinson/Style Rookie landed the cover in the Netherlands, and was literally stretched to the style max with the help of stylist Alex Aikiu and legendary photographer Jean-Paul Goude.
You know the old phrase ‘starting off on the right foot’? Abdulkader Sankari and his son Ahmed don’t seem to. The duo recently bought fashion label Gianfranco Ferré. After which they didn’t attend the first meeting to discuss the brand’s relaunch under their ownership. Instead, they sent their lawyer. Woops.
Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriend, Florence Brudenell-Bruce, is the new face Aspinal of London! A perfect – albeit slightly scandalous – pick.
Was anyone else a Girl Scout? I was – and it was absolutely legendary to me. I even remember my troop number (though, I still hold a grudge towards never actually ‘achieving’ my cooking badge). Anyway! The big news is that Girl Scouts are reinventing their badges for the first time since 1987.
Seeyalata to the Fashion, Fitness and Makeup badge (quel horreur!) but a big hello to a Science of Style badge that has girls learn about nanotechnology in fabrics and the chemistry of sunscreens! They will also be introducing badges for locavore awareness, financial literacy, and website design. Can I sign up again?
The Victorias Secret Fashion Show has now become such a big deal, it has almost ended up as a Fashion Week in itself. This year, it is only being taken to bigger heights with both Kanye West and Maroon 5 as the musical guests! Interestingly, both Kanye and Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine are dating VS Angels. For Levine, its legs-a-million Anne Vyalitsyna. For West, it is ultra-model Chanel Iman. Quadruplet dance off in a glitter rainstorm, please?
Super Size Me‘s infamous documentary filmmaker, Morgan Spurlock, is no friend of Abercrombie and Fitch. When he approached the Californicated brand to sponsor his latest project, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, the conversation went as described:
“Trying to get brands on board for this film was bruising to my ego. Abercrombie & Fitch told me I was fat, ugly, pale and had the moustache of a pornographer so they weren’t going to sponsor my film.”
The question was how to communicate the philosophy behind the new collection of German “Haute Couture” fashion designer Stefan Eckert in a better way. The answer was the world’s first complete 3D holographic fashion show. I teamed up with director Florian Sigl to create the visual concept for the show and how to express the collection within this special medium as best as possible. After shooting with a high speed camera I did all stages of post production, from 3D to motion graphics to compositing.
The result was one of the biggest holographic projections ever which creates a complete optical illusion and breaks the rules of time and space on stage.
Eva Longoria is the BFF of Victoria Beckham. The Miley to her Mandy. The Princess Sparkles to her Share Bear. (Enough.) Naturally, she did what every best friend does and promoted her Posh pal’s fashion label by wearing one of her dresses to the London launch of her new fragrance – “Eva” – last night.
Because she couldn’t be there, Beckham tweeted that her fabulous friend looked fabulous in her dress:
@evalongoria looking stunning in a dress from my fall collection at the launch of her new fragrance today in London.x VB
