Hamish Bowles X Factor

  • In this month’s Vogue, Hamish Bowles chronicles an assignment – given to him by Anna Wintour – to audition for X-Factor US (page 198!). And I quote…

You can sing,” says Anna, who has heard me warble some comedic Noel Coward songs at The Rug Company during Fashion’s Night Out. “This will be easy for you.” Her enthusiasm buoys me along, until a moment over dinner at the Metropolitan Opera … when she insouciantly announces that she is, in fact, completely tone deaf.

Hamish consulted Liza Minnelli and Cheyenne Jackson before deciding to audition to the ultimate power ballad, Miss Britney Spears’ “Oops! … I Did It Again“. In his actual audition, he stood outside the Prudential Center in Newark like ‘the normal people’ in a not-so-normal gold Mugler suit and Christian Louboutin shoes under the pseudonym “Leo Mercuré“. He didn’t pass the auditions.

“Isn’t that the guy who owns Vogue?” asks one of the security guards. “Wicked shoes.”

  • Alice Temperley gave a few interviews post-London Fashion Week and has insisted that the five-day-long LFW needs to be extended from the shortest of the international four as “London’s better than New York Fashion Week now“.

  • Stella McCartney has designed the costumes for New York City Ballet‘s new production, opening today. The ballet’s music score was penned by her Superdad, Paul McCartney. The designer has shared that the collaboration with the ballet and her father is “emotional” but that “on another side, I know and understand I am working with Paul McCartney.”

  • During London Fashion Week, Sienna Miller was a half an hour late to Matthew Williamson‘s show for Spring/Summer 2012. As the designer is Sienna’s personal friend, he held the show for her, which apparently annoyed Anna Wintour so much she was getting up to leave as the show started.

  • London Fashion Week on Acid. That’s all I can muster to say about that.

  • Dolce & Gabbana has just announced that today’s Spring/Summer 2012 show for its D&G diffusion line was the label’s lastever! Both sources that were close to the designers as well as Italian retailers have said that the two lines were “cannabalizing” each other. How? They were too close in price.

In Dolce & Gabbana’s official statement, the designers have stated that mixing D&G back into their signature line would give “even more strength and energy to our collections”.

  • Kate Moss Wedding Vogue
That, my friends, is the epic cover for US Vogue‘s September Issue 2011. You couldn’t really want more than a customized Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2011 gown on Kate Moss, could you?

Inside the issue to beat all issues, Kate has a gorgeous spread of wedding photos that feature friends, family, and new husband Jamie Hince in Rodarte.

In the accompanying interview with Hamish Bowles:

After two years together, they took a romantic sabbatical to Thailand: “We were just so loved up, and he asked me to marry him every day.”

The day Kate finally said yes (while watching My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding): “I am so romantic about Gypsies. They’re not allowed to do anything until they get married. So they all get married really young, at sixteen. You can’t believe the dresses. They’re like blinging butterflies times ten; they can’t move down the aisle! It’s so genius. I was just watching Jamie, so cute, and I was like, these girls, they just spend their whole life waiting for that day—let’s do it!”

Her dream wedding: “I wanted it to be kind of dreamy and 1920s, when everything is soft-focus. The Great Gatsby. The code name was GG for a while. That light and that kind of fun decadence. It’s rock-’n’-roll Great Gatsby!”

The controversy-ridden John Galliano on designing Mrs Hince’s wedding dress: “She dared me to be John Galliano again. I couldn’t pick up a pencil. It’s been my creative rehab.”

    Rachel Zoe Gossip Girl
This season of Gossip Girl is going to be especially chic. There were already reports circulating saying that fashion industry giants Karl Lagerfeld and Vogue editors Hamish Bowles and Lauren Santo Domingo would appear on the show, and now it looks like everyone’s favourite celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe is going to be on the show, too!

Somewhere in between all of the shows and parties she’s been invited to over New York Fashion Week, she found time to schlep to Queens to tape a few lines. The workaholic is starring as herself in an episode whose story line centers around plans for Blair Waldorf’s 20th birthday party, a source has said. Strangely, even though she is perfectly capable, she has also agreed to let the show’s wardrobe department dress her.

“Rachel plays herself in the scene and has a handful of lines to remember,” the insider said, adding that designer Cynthia Rowley and Elle magazine’s creative director, Joe Zee, will also make guests appearances in the same episode. Set your DVRS…twice.

    Karlie Kloss Gossip Girl
Though the new season of Gossip Girl premiere kicks off in the middle of Fashion Week, I highly suggest you set your DVRs and make time to watch the September 13th season premiere. On top of fashion appearances from Meredith Melling Burke and Hamish Bowles, a top model has been confirmed to receive a bit of air time with the GG crew – Karlie Kloss!

The Vogue darling will play herself, popping up during a meeting with characters Lily Van Der Woodsen and Eleanor Waldorf for Fashion’s Night Out – even delivering a line! She has the Blair Waldorf bitch face down to an art already – maybe this will inspire some more model appearances in future episodes.
