Review: M1LK, Balham

Balham has a few solid eateries, but its familiarity as the beginning and end of my daily commute means I typically prefer ‘going out’ in different areas. Failed logic, I tell you. I had crossed a crowded M1LK one too many times. It won’t happen again.

With my man in tow, a casual walk through Hildreth St Market sealed foodie fate…we couldn’t ignore the corner cafe any longer.

Starting with a Workshop Coffee Co cappuccino and ‘Billie’ (strawberry and orange) smoothie, we tried our best to decide on lunch choices by hungry-eyeing our neighbours plates. It proved impossible. Everything looks so good. In the end, Alex opted for Eggs Bene (poached eggs on white sourdough with drycure smoked bacon and Sam’s hollandaise sauce) while I couldn’t resist a basket of sweetcorn fritters with grilled halloumi, smashed avocado, kasundi and lime. While you can also get the dish with bacon, the vegetarian option was astounding all on its own. Not a single customer leaves without a smile on their face.

My advice? Get M1lked.
