the mean reds
Holy vlog, guys and dolls! It is time for another look inside my brain, your brain, and the fictional brain of Miss Holly Golightly.

The Mean Reds: how we get ’em and how to deal, below (rather casually and beautifully filmed on the Hudl2). Enjoy!

Before moving into our new home, The Manfriend and I conducted a stock check of all of our belongings and realised that DVDs took up a shocking percentage of our overall material things.

The space-saving solutions were as follows:
a) Donate them all.
b) Somehow find a solution that reduced their actual physical space (and wasn’t an eyesore).

We found something of a miracle in Plex and Google Chromecast (how I survived before Chromecast, I have no idea). Plex is an app that holds your entire media library in a super easy (and super smart) user interface – movies, TV shows, home movies, and more – for instant streaming.

It is not just lists and file names. It keeps track of episodes watched, theme songs, movie posters, episodic promo pictures, categories (you can sort by ratings, date released, genre, or personally curated lists), and more. The more I use it, the more I love it.

While it won’t replace Netflix for me (I wouldn’t even know where to purchase half the documentaries I end up stumbling across), it is incredible in its own right.

How To Make Your Own Netflix with Plex

1. Download Plex, DVD Ripper HD and DvdDecrypter.
2. Create your Plex account, follow setup instructions, and choose your media server (we’re using an external hard drive plugged into a laptop, but you can use a laptop or computer alone).
3. Open DvdDecrypter, put your DVD in to your laptop/computer, and ‘rip’ it in DVD Ripper HD (following the movie naming and TV show naming guidelines so the information auto-populates).
4. Make sure your fully ripped file is in the folder you allocated during setup.
5. Refresh your app library, plug in your Chromecast, and GET YOUR PLEX ON.
6. Rinse and repeat until your physical movie and TV show library disappears.

Let me know how you get on, beauties.

scatter my ashes
Watching Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s was like falling in love with fashion all over again. Like being that young girl who draped bedsheets around her, attempting to ‘work it’ for her mirrors like the Moss’ and Turlingtons she idolized. It reminded me of the whimsy, beauty, imagination and dedication that often gets sidelined in the focus of making something for yourself in the fashion industry.

The documentary is magical.

As something of a love letter to Bergdorf’s, the movie taps an inimitable cast (Mary-Kate Olsen, Ashley Olsen, Candice Bergen, Nicole Richie, Joan Rivers, Tom Ford, Georgina Chapman, Rachel Zoe, Marc Jacobs, Giorgio Armani, Karl Lagerfeld, Vera Wang, Isaac Mizrahi, Iris Apfel, and more) to share their personal experiences of the store as well as sharing the secrets of fantastical stories of Bergdorf’s lifespan. The inner workings and artistic fantasy of the visual merchandising department alone? Mindblowing.

And as the DVD was released here in the UK yesterday, I’m hosting a giveaway for two readers to win a copy of Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s!

m&s christmas gift
As I have been working with M&S quite a bit this year, I have become something of an unofficial spokesperson for everything they sell (from gluten-free Percy Pigs to flowers, I kid you not). When I came home to receive a little Merry Christmas/thank you package from the M&S Team this week, the deal was pretty much sealed: I am an M&S superfan.

After committing to share the contents with my nearest and dearest for a cosy night in, I wiggled into my new pyjamas and popped Elf in (because what else do you watch in the month of December?) before the couches were overtaken by food, drink, and Christmas cheer. Supplementing Crunchy Mint Choc Twigs (I truly hope these are only available for Christmas – I fell in love and my waistline is scared) with some more M&S nibbles, we did mini-facials with Formula’s Advanced Illumin-ATP Radiance Day Cream (it’s a lot like Clarins’ infamous flash balm – but better – and half the price) and painted ourselves silly with an Eyeshadow Palette and lipstick from Lola until Buddy The Elf saved Christmas.

Thank you for the love, M&S!

bulgari hotel brunch
While I have oohed and ahhed over the magic that is the Bulgari Hotel before, each visit to their Hotel & Residences seems to cast a honeymoon phase love spell on me.

Over London Fashion Week, I took a lunchtime break to experience ‘La Dolce Domenica‘ – Bulgari’s indulgent Sunday brunch experience – for some stylish weekend solace. Nestled in the chicer-than-chic Il Bar lounge area, the spread itself features fresh fruits, smoothies and juices, artisan breads and pastries, Italian cheeses and hams, decadent desserts, and a ‘hot food’ menu (order the eggs!) to order your brunchtime favourites from.

Though it costs an occasion-worthy £58 per person, the addition of a cocktail and private 3pm film screening in their state-of-the-art cinema (popcorned and all) makes it fabulous value for money.

For reservations, call + 44 (0)20 7151 1025.
