If Naomi Campbell hosting a reality TV show wasn’t a big enough headline grabber, the supermodel has just sent the internet a-tizzy by adding three more fashion powerhouses to the mix. Today, Coco Rocha blogged that she and Karolina Kurkova would be the two other supermodels on board for Oxygen’s “The Face“.
From the blog:
“As the youngest mentor of the three, I have looked up to Naomi and Karolina my entire career and am ecstatic to be able to work side by side with them on this amazing new project. We, as coaches, will scout and choose our teams from aspiring young models nationwide before guiding them through assignments, which include photo shoots, runway shows and commercials for some of America’s best known brands”.
With Nigel Barker also participating in the show – supposedly as the host – I have never been so excited for a season of anything to start (ok…not including Mad Men.)
As only one model hopeful is going to become “The Face” (and the star of a major brand campaign, to boot!), this new reality show is going to be an exciting mashup of The Voice’s competitive slant and America’s Next Top Model fashion mentoring. Stilettos at the ready.
Though there have been provocative ads featuring young teenage models left untouched by ad regulations for years, a photo of teenage actress Hailee Steinfeld sitting by a train track has been banned in the UK. The image – part of Miu Miu‘s Fall/Winter campaign – was banned for being “irresponsible because it depicted a child in an unsafe location”, to which I say… I feel like wearing snakes as clothes.
Carolina Herrera has announced that she plans to produce the wedding dress she designed for Kristen Stewart (aka Bella Swan) in Twilight: Breaking Dawn. I can only imagine the type of themed weddings that will come out of this!
“I wanted to create a magical moment that they had at the wedding. She’s an innocent girl that is finding her first true love, so there is romance, there is magic, there is everything together.”
– Carolina Herrera
Two of my favourite models (and rumoured sapphic sisters), Freja Beha Erichsen and Arizona Muse, were photographed hanging out at Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont this past weekend wearing two dresses from Chloé’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection. This, without the brand overtly saying so, suggests that the duo have booked the campaign!

Naomi Campbell continues her decades-long world takeover by becoming editor-at-large for the new German and Russian editions of Interview Magazine. According to the official press release, Naomi will “regularly meet great and outstanding personalities for this in-depth feature interview”.
Your daily dose of Karl Lagerfeld…coming up! International newspaper “Metro” (everyone’s favourite half-asleep morning read) has appointed Uncle Karl as “guest editor” for a day at Metro’s Paris offices on February 7th, 2012.
As “Metro” launches it’s Autumn/Winter 2012 show coverage the same day – it will be brilliant press for him. He intends to provide his infamous commentary as well as some of his gorgeous illustrations.
And there’s something in it for you, too! Though it hasn’t been launched yet, there will be a global web site launched where you can submit your “fashion statements” to a Look Book competition for a chance to fly to Paris and be an editorial assistant on February 6th, and lots of Lagerfeld swag, to boot.
Alexander McQueen‘s junior, lower-priced line – “McQ” – is opening a flagship store on Dover Street in London in Spring of next year! Preceding the opening, the line will also premiere it’s first-ever show for London Fashion Week.
I knew I was going to fall in love, but I’m pretty sure I’m now ready to have kids with this video.
All you need to know: music video, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen, Eva Herzigova, Yasmin Le Bon, rock and roll, The Savoy, cameos, sex, Dolce & Gabbana, groupies, glamour, Jonas Akerlund; Duran Duran – Girl Panic.
Grab nine-and-a-half minutes worth of glittery popcorn.
Caps over. Still excited. For yers, there was no expectation in my mind – whatsoever – that Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen and Yasmin Le Bon would ever end up in a photoshoot together. Amazingly, years past the ‘supermodel era’, Harper’s Bazaar UK have them on the cover!
The nineties legends are posing to promote the upcoming debut of Duran Duran‘s music video for “Girl Panic” in which the five supermodels have been cast as the actual band (not such a stretch, as Yasmin is married to Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon).
Girl Panic‘s director, Jonas Akerlund (best recognised for his direction in Lady Gaga’s videos for Paparazzi and Telephone), also shot the spread, hinting that the whole enchilada is going to be exceptionally fashion-packed.
Katy Perry (and her perfectly pink hair) got the October cover of InStyle – and I love it! The dark nails and textured styling are super appropriate and charming for this Fall cover.
This past Sunday, supermodel Gisele Bundchen was driving her Cadillac SUV down Route 6 though Barnstable when she was pulled over for driving 15 mph over the speed limit in a 55 mph zone with two babies in the backseat. The son, a certain William J. Hopper, of the statesman that let her off with a warning then tweeted: “He let her go, but in return she signed her autograph on the citation with kisses.”
Early next year, VH1 will start to follow fashion stylistJune Ambrose for a new reality series. The Hollywood Reporter said camera crews will “follow Ambrose and her team of assistants as they serve a mix of up-and-coming and established celebrity clients, including actors and musicians, who want to make over their looks and brands”. June’s clients have included the Dave Matthews Band, Sean Combs, Alicia Keys, Kelly Ripa, Kim Cattrall, Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige.
Model Dree Hemingway will be playing a porn star in Sean Baker’s upcoming film, “Starlet“.
The City of West Hollywood (WeHo) is one step closer to banning the sale of fur. (It’s okay, fluff-lovers, the faux is just as luscious looking, nowadays!). A recent debate on the subject lasted until the early hours of this morning, where those who are pro-fur argued the law would be anti-business and questioned whether a ban would lead to a leather and/or meat ban, as well. The final vote has yet to be reached, but there is a current tip towards the ban.
Naomi Campbell‘s generous, Russian billionaire boyfriend has commissioned a 25 room, eco-friendly retreat for the supermodel in honor of her 41st birthday! The retreat/mansion/haven will be built on a private Turkish isle called Isla Playa de Cleopatra and, according to architect Luis de Garrido, “is completely energy and water self-sufficient and features an amazing indoor landscaped terrace”. It is also shaped like the eye of Horus, an ancient Egyptian deity. Check it out.
