The Met Gala is probably my all-time favourite red carpet event. Just one look at Leighton Meester’s 2009 Met Gala ensemble – above – gets me all goosebump-y (to top it off, she’s wearing Marchesa tonight!)
I am proud to announce that, for the first time, you will be able to watch the Met Gala Red Carpet Live from Amazon! Just click that link, and from 6.30pm EST you can settle into an online fashion haven. I will also be live-blogging over at @lelalondon on Twitter to tell you who is wearing what as I find it out from the inside!
Expect to see Balmain’s Oliver Rousteing with Joan Smalls, Alexander Wang with Azealia Banks (who is performing), Anthony Vaccarello with Anja Rubik, Joseph Altuzarra with Lana Del Rey, Erdem Moralioglu with Arizona Muse, Rachel Zoe (and hubby Roger) with Karolina Kurkova, Thakoon Panichgul is taking Christina Ricci (YAY), Proenza Schouler with Isabel Lucas, Heidi Klum in Escada, Michael Kors with Kate Upton (he also dressed Hilary Swank, Jessica Alba, and Liu Wen), Kenneth Cole with Chace Crawford, Donna Karan with cartoon supermodel Polly Bean (I’m serious), Derek Lam with nine-months-pregnant Katharina Harf, Amy Adams in Giambattista Valli haute couture, and all of the Vogue editor’s wearing pink (as per Anna Wintour’s request).
Everyone’s favourite model – Coco Rocha – is wearing an untailored (and slightly wine-stained) neon Givenchy pants suit with matching jacket which she purchased at Elizabeth Taylor’s auction at Christie’s in December. A little birdy tells us her beauty look is “Schiaparelli pink”. I’ve already begged for curls.
At the Q Awards, beautiful songstress Lana Del Rey was the recipient of the “Next Big Thing” award (which she is). Not super-fashiony news, I know, but LOOK at her Prabal Gurung Resort 2012 floral print dress! Dead. The white brogues add that perfect touch.
If you are at all aware of fashion on Twitter, you probably follow DKNY PR Girl. Though the ‘Twitter celebrity’ has kept her identity a secret (making us all woner, “Who is @DKNY?“), she has actually quietly revealed all!
Say hello to Aliza Licht, the Senior Vice President of Global Communications at Donna Karan International (via her video posted to Tumblr).
Karl Lagerfeld is launching a new line with Net-a-Porter! Seriously, when does he sleep? For a January 25th release date, the genius designer is creating “Karl“; a 100-piece women’s collection based heavily on denim and leather. A mens collection will follow for Autumn/Winter 2012.
Founder and executive chairman of Net-a-Porter, Natalie Massenet, said
“We believe in this collection based on Karl’s talent, his global appeal and the product itself. It’s a very strong, well-edited collection with a great mix of street attitude and timeless chic. It also is an entire wardrobe that mixes and matches well with itself.”
At Teen Vogue‘s “Fashion U” classes this past weekend, over 30 fashion industry heavyweights gave their guidance and regaled stories to a large group of young, wannabe name-to-knows. One very poignant note from the weekend? Proenza Schouler now “care less about what the critics [have to say] and more about the kids on blogs … their responses are pure, and instinctual”.
Up until now, my perfume collection has only consisted of spray fragrances or solid bar fragrances. Not too far from now, it may include “Swallowable Parfum“: a cosmetic tablet/pill (literally) that enables human skin to emit a genetically unique scent about who we are and how we perform our identities. Basically turning our skin into an atomizer.
The 2011 Emmy Awards had one of the most peculiar red carpets I have seen in a long time. With an abundance of way-too-heavy makeup and way-too-bland dresses, a lot of the fashion was forgettable. So who did it right? These ladies!
Right at the start, we saw Nina Dobrev turn up in a stunning red Donna Karan Resort 2012 gown. Super glossy hair and a choker-style, silver Neil Lane necklace were all she needed to complete her look. View Post
J’adore Donna Karan. The label’s clothes are long-lasting – both in construction and style – and easily fall in line with all of your multiple fashion personalities. For my ad inspiration, I have taken Donna Karan’s ad style and a)cut it in half, their images can sometimes be spread too far to localize their latest design aesthetic, as well as b) highlighted the famous logo, which seems like an afterthought at times.
It’s a sexy Rihanna package! This Vogue US cover for April 2011 looks like a homage to either Ariel (The Little Mermaid) or Jessica Rabbit, even though the red-haired songstress wears a stunning embroidered Chanel Pre-Fall 2011 dress. With such a game-changing cover, the actual spread – “Living Out Loud” – left me slightly disappointed.
It is their Shape issue, so I understand the use of the red hot Hervé Léger by Max Azria cutout swimsuit with Alexander Wang open-toe booties, but the styling (by the usually-adored Tonne Goodman) was uncharacteristically minimal from there on out; a Chloé one-shoulder mesh dress and a Donna Karan midnight-blue bodysuit. I believe it is the combination of forced style and the fact that the editorial – photographed by Annie Leibovitz – seemed poorly lit, but after such a cover the rest of the images felt slightly ‘travel catalog’. I hold all four names – Goodman, Leibovitz, Riri and Vogue – in the highest sartorial regard, so expected something a little more inspiring. Video and spread for you below! View Post
