I never went to my high school prom. Not that I’m all ‘boohoo’ about it (graduating early and high-tailing it out of Midwest America was a fair trade), but I do feel like I jipped myself out of a fun night in a sparkly dress.
As an adult, I get especially excited about spending a formal evening with friends…and sparkles (no doubt thanks to the promlessness of my youth). In fact, when it comes to special occasions, my first port of call is always prom dress websites.
Let’s just lay it out there: this dress was a given from the first click. Though style ‘gurus’ say pale girls shouldn’t wear ‘nude’ or ‘skin’ colours, it is my favourite rule to break. The colours, beading, sheer panels, and swing skirt were exactly what I was looking for.
What I Wore:
‘8518’ Sherri Hill cocktail dress from Rissy Roo’s
Custom-made heels from The Colour Studio

Oh, I hate it when a designer falls below my expectations. In all honesty, Georges Chakra is one of my favourites; his one-off designs for beautiful women like Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, and Beyoncé being the best example of his raw talent. Unfortunately, for New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011, we were given a shapeless lime evening dress with a horrible bustline that I never want to see again.
It definitely wasn’t all bad. Some of the dresses were phenomenal, innovative, and had the attention to detail that we all love Chakra for (see metallic brown dress below). Some of the others? Destined for the prom dress sale rack. View Post
