motel rocks
Stepping into the Motel Rocks showroom felt a little bit like the movie Clueless. And a Christmas party.

Both the brand and the women who work at the brand come in a fantastic package: they’re playful, flirty, and trend-aware. With price points that we can all afford, their Autumn/Winter collection has a lot of glitter, and a lot of print. Designed in-house, two standout prints were a Tetris-looking floral print and a smokey paint-splattered print. I think one of the best things about Motel Rocks is that if you like a print but feel that the garment itself isn’t your style, all of their prints come in a range of styles: jeans, crop tops, dresses, hot pants, jackets, and more.

On top of that, Motel is expanding into very exciting shoe territory later this year…but my lips are sealed for now!

Louis Vuitton Fall Winter 2011
Sex sells, and Louis Vuitton just reminded us. With a Fall/Winter collection full of voluptuous silhouettes, handcuffs (attaching eighteen-carat gold handbags to model’s wrists), and high waisted lingerie boy shorts – it was clear that “fashion” and “fetish” are interchangable for Marc Jacobs. With such straightforward sexuality leaking out of the set’s elevators, the garments remained committed to Vuitton sophistication – it’s obviously time we stopped wearing pants, ladies. The show also featured the best casting of the season – Kate Moss (who closed the show, smoking), Raquel Zimmerman, Naomi Campbell, Amber Valletta and more. See the top five looks below! View Post

John Galliano
When the ‘John Galliano got arrested OMG’ wave hit the internet – even trending on Twitter – I tried to steer clear. I didn’t want to propel a rumour that had no grounds. The earliest ‘reports’ claimed Galliano to have assaulted a couple and yell anti-semitic remarks at them during a dinner at Paris’ La Perle, ending in criminal arrest.

After the initial (sans evidence) reaction, eyewitness accounts have confirmed that none of the above happened. Instead, they offered memories of an inebriated and joyful Galliano who raised a glass to toast with friends, causing a couple nearby to mistake him for a vagrant and reply “…you’re ugly, you’re disgusting, move away from here”! Galliano reacted with: “You’re ugly and you’re (sic) f*cking bag is ugly too” – hardly an anti-semitic remark. In the bag’s honour, the woman’s boyfriend charged at Galliano. Neither was hurt, as John’s bodyguard and the staff at the restaurant intervened. Following the altercation, police arrived and Galliano went to police headquarters to make an official statement (note: no handcuffs involved).

Galliano has been suspended from his professional duties at Dior pending an official police investigation, and no-one currently knows if the scheduled March 4th Fall/Winter collection will go on as planned. It’s not an endearing story, but it certainly is a harmless lesson to learn. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
