I am starting to realize Britney Spears can do no wrong in my eyes. Even though many elements of her latest video – “I Wanna Go” – are eyebrow raise-inducing, the dark sense of humour and tongue in cheek references Britney The Brand more than redeem her.
What goes on? Cyborgs, a Mickey Mouse-ears wearing skeleton, Guillermo from Weeds seductively pouring milk over his body, an easter egg for “Crossroads 2: Cross Harder”, a Thriller eyeball homage, a paparazzi cuss-out, a quote from “Half Baked”, and a punked out Baby One More Time-esque schoolgirl outfit (with spiked Louboutins and studded Doc Martens!)
Wacky, wonderful, and a pretty flawless tune by Britney standards (no point in expecting the vocal solidarity of Adele or the whimsical grooves of of Montreal, right?).
As heavy on satire as The Gentlewoman can get away with, Tanga Moreau was styled by Jodie Barnes in “Navy” across West Kensington and Chelsea (holla). Why do I love it? This has no intention of being “pretty” or evoking fashionable sexuality. This is tongue-in-cheek “high fashion” on the stomping grounds I know and love. Giles Deacon is having one hell of a season, now adding an incredible first show with French label Emanuel Ungaro to his repertoire. At the Serre du Parc Andre Citroen in Paris’ 15th arrondissement, his maribou-trimmed collection was shown in an explosive garden setting that embodied all of Giles’ va-va-voom and tongue-in-cheek feminine predecession. Anna Dello Russo even got in on the action as a model; sharing the spotlight with a stuffed lamb (of the never-breathing variety) named Funbungo. I would go as far as saying the age of ‘Ungaro Unsure‘ is over. View Post
