“Being tender and open is beautiful. I feel continually shhh’ed. Too sensitive. Too mushy. Too wishy washy. Don’t let someone steal your tenderness. Don’t allow the coldness and fear of others to tarnish your perfectly vulnerable beating heart. Nothing is more powerful than allowing yourself to truly be affected by things. Whether it’s a song, a stranger, a mountain, a rain drop, a tea kettle, an article, a sentence, a footstep…feel it all – look around you. All of this is for you. Take it and have gratitude. Give it and feel love.”
– Zooey Deschanel
First, we have Zooey Deschanel – the actress commonly confused for Katy Perry who gained major fame in Elf, 500 Days of Summer, and will soon appear in “New Girl” on Fox). Though she was stuck in a must-wear-black-tights uniform for years, she has recently started becoming a little more adventurous with her fashion choices.
At yesterday’s LA premiere for “Our Idiot Brother” (which took place at the ArcLight Cinemas), Zooey wore a monochrome Moschino dress from the Fall/Winter 2011 collection. Though the look is two-toned from top to bottom – where she sports a black pair of YSL Trib Toos – the ruffled detail at the waist and her oversized, detachable collar keeps it very Zooey. With a wavy, side-swept bun and super-long false lashes (only on her lower lash line), she is the farthest thing from Plain Jane.
Then we have the utterly gorgeous Kristen Bell on her way to a private ‘swag bag’ party which took place at an undisclosed residence in Brentwood, California on Sunday. The beautiful blonde paired together two separate Alberta Ferretti Spring/Summer 2011 pieces that I will now be seeing in my fashion dreams. They happen nightly.
The separates were a taupe, crocheted long-sleeve top paired with a grass-green skirt which was also covered in an apricot print. Accessories-wise we have the crocodile Jimmy Choo “Rhea” tote, orange stiletto-heeled pumps and gold-trimmed sunglasses. Nothing ‘matches’ but every item compliments the next. My kind of style.
‘Gossip Girl’ started filming again, which means more Blair Waldorf wardrobe – and Leighton Meester – to lust over! The first public day of filming brought us Leighton in orange Brian Atwood ‘Maniac’ pumps, a citrus print Stella McCartney Spring/Summer 2011 skirt, bright yellow ruffled blouse, and an orange Riki Rosetta tote.
On Wednesday, Emma Watson attended the photocall for “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2” at St Pancras station wearing a Rafael Lopez lace-and-tulle mini dress with a gold bodice. She paired the beauty with a black patent leather waistband and black Chanel pumps.
Emma again! This time at the world premiere of “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2” in Trafalgar Square. Perfection in a full-skirted Oscar de la Renta ballgown? I think so. Miss Granger also wore jewellery from Boodles.
Though she didn’t attend any shows, Dita von Teese showed up at the Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Fall 2011 Closing Party hosted by Chambre Syndicale de la Couture at Trianon Palace. The regal and curvaceous burlesque star wore a beautiful gown by Alexis Mabille from Fall/Winter 2010 – the same dress Leighton Meester wore on last season’s final episode of Gossip Girl.
Though the dress code is all-white for “The White Fairy Tale Love Ball“, hostess and supermodel Natalia Vodianovia always wears red. This year she showed up in an incredible Red Riding Hood-esque gown, custom designed by Valentino Garavani.
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge touched down at Calgary Airport in Canada wearing a lemon-yellow silk crepe dress by Jenny Packham (a break from navy, woohoo!). She accessorized with her favourite L.K. Bennett pumps and a matching clutch.
For some reason, I never expected Kate Middleton to show up on a red carpet. That said, she wowed the crowds at last night’s BAFTA Brits To Watch Event, which was held at the Belasco Theatre in LA. She wore a princess-perfect lilac Alexander McQueen gown, silver Jimmy Choo “Vamp” glitter-finish sandals and matching clutch of the same designer.
While I have never featured her before, Saturday‘s singer (and girlfriend to David Gandy) Mollie King truly impressed on the “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2” red carpet. Wearing the “Peignoir” lingerie-inspired Spring/Summer 2011 dress by Julien Macdonald and Nicholas Kirkwood two-tone peep-toes, she was an envelope-pushing breath of fresh air.
Zooey Deschanel‘s uniform involves wearing tights on almost every red carpet, making it quite unusual to see her at the BAFTA Brits To Watch Event in a legs-baring Fall/Winter 2011 dress by Oscar de la Renta. The tea-length design and scalloped hem keeps her style ‘uniform’ consistent, and is beyond lovely on her.
For the first time since starting Fashion Spot, I am presenting my take on something other than an ad. This time? A Vogue magazine cover.
While Vogue is the Fashion Bible, there are a few things I would love to see on their covers:

Thanks to a Nylon magazine special-edition Zune was gifted to me about six years ago, I have had a daily reminder of the quasi fashion magazine. The magazine – like the mp3 player – is chic, quirky, and youthful. In fact, their Best Dressed List for 2010 runs along that same theme. The list is a good one, with the exception of Blake Lively who requires a stylist…stat. Let’s remember, Nylon, good individual items do not qualify an entity into the best dressed list.
