The World’s Smallest Catwalk

Earlier in the week, I went to a Fashion Show of peculiar sorts. Instead of the typical 6-foot goddesses, a bevy of 21 inch models twirled around a runway a mere one metre long; this was, of course, River Island’s design collaboration with crafts range Harumika. The unlikely collaboration has brought the worlds of toys and fashion together to create the World’s Smallest Catwalk and showcase the latest trends from everyone’s favourite stop on the high street, River Island.

The pieces themselves were upcoming looks from River Island’s Autumn/Winter 2012 Chelsea Girl collection that had been interpreted for Harumika by 22-year-old emerging designer Christina Ruby Walton – in under two weeks (!) – while keeping all of them fabrics and colourways of the full sized collection. Even the sparkling satchel. The budding fashionistas of the world definitely didn’t have this sort of thing in our yesteryear!
