Though the full campaign has yet to be released, I have astronomically high hopes for Louis Vuitton‘s Spring/Summer 2012 ad campaign. With models Daria Strokous and Kati Nescher snapped in a candy-coated colour dream scheme, the collection (thus far) has really been brought to life. It begs for a second glance, which is something I feel such a monumental fashion campaign should hold to the highest priority. Guess what just arrived? Hailee Steinfeld‘s campaign for Miu Miu – and it completely rocked my expectation’s boats. The first look completely aligns with the represented Fall/Winter 2011 collection, and Bruce Weber‘s film-esque lens is a welcome change from the over-processed campaigns that Miu Miu have been edging away from. It is love.
This kind of blog is never easy to write. Today, the world found out that French model Isabelle Caro – known for her nude anti-anorexia campaign circa Milan Fashion Week 2007 – has died. She actually passed away on the 17th of November after being treated for an acute lung infection in Tokyo. While the direct cause is unknown, it is believed to be a direct result of the disorder she has suffered since the age of thirteen.
If you don’t remember, Isabelle’s anti-anorexia campaign – shot by Olivero Toscani – was a controversial, headline-hoarding effort that was endorsed by the Italian Ministry of Health and shot when she weighed only 59 pounds. It also was released shortly after 21-year-old Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston died of anorexia.
Caro also moved Jessica Simpson to tears in an interview for her show “The Price of Beauty“, where the model expressed her efforts to pass a law in French parliament that would prohibit models from working if they were too thin. Rest in peace, beautiful girl.
With her incredible worldwide standing at Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011, Arizona Muse has booked her first major ad campaign, and it’s an extremely coveted signing. The “rising star” is the flawless face of Yves Saint Laurent‘s Spring 2011 ad campaign.
Arizona was shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin in the gardens of Bled Roknine, a ’30s style villa in Marrakech. YSL’s connection to Morocco is well known as Yves bought the Majorelle botanical gardens (in Marrakech) in 1980 with his partner Pierre Barge. The gardens served as a source of inspiration to Saint Laurent, and now house an exhibition of his Morrocan-inspired pieces along with his ashes which were scattered when he died in 2008.
Instead of Louis Vuitton, U2 front man Bono and his wife Ali Hewson appear in their own ethical clothing line, “Edun“, in the new “Core Values” ad campaign for Louis Vuitton. Featuring the duo arriving in an African grassland, the ad states that “Every journey begins in Africa,” and is meant to give the small brand, whom LVMH took a 49 percent stake in last year, some international exposure.
The ad coincides with the Africa Rising exhibition where contemporary African art will temporarily be sold alongside Edun’s spring collection during Paris Fashion Week. Both Bono and Hewson donated their appearance fees to a slew of organizations that promote growth in developing countries, and portions of the profit from their new co-designed bag will also be donated.
