Thylane Lena-Rose Blondeau is one of the the very few young-and-stunning ‘model sensations’ set to make an enormous name for herself. The thing is, she’s 10 years old. Born in the Ivory Coast in 2001, it seems she was genetically blessed with a quintessential ‘model face‘ – something extraordinarily reminiscent of Brigitte Bardot and Lou Doillon.
With such an extensive portfolio already in place as the incredibly young model hit double-digits, Thylane has been the center of both awe and controversy. While her prominent beauty is of no argument, the fact that she has been styled “seductively” in some shoots makes me uncomfortable. While a woman’s right to her sexuality is completely her choice, she is in no way close to being a woman. I believe this young girl has, to be cliche, a face that could launch a thousand ships. When these tiny beauties are still years away from puberty, though, let those of us in the industry keep them modelling as children and children only.
I wish her a safe and wonderful career ahead.
Harry Potter Spoilers ahead. I don’t wish to be internet beheaded.
For Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour‘s upcoming wedding in the Harry Potter series, I wasn’t expecting much fashion wise. Hogwarts seems to have a knack for keeping things awfully…British. That was until I saw the promotional image of Clemence Poesy (who plays Fleur) in her wedding dress. Hello, Alexander McQueen? Literally his design with some minor alterations.
The designer, Jany Temime, said “Fleur’s dress is made in organza and decorated with a pair of phoenixes that face one another on the bodice and form the silhouette of a heart. I chose the phoenix because, like love, it is eternal.” I can only imagine the type of controversy this will cause if she doesn’t start citing her inspiration. Alexander McQueen fans are a hardcore pack.

Apart from being a news source, I typically use this dot-com as a place to talk about the things that I love. This post, however, is going to be a little different. As a stylist, I understand the pressure there is to be innovative and how easily you can slip into ‘shock factor’ shoots without realising the impact it can have. Numero and Patti Wilson may have pushed it too far this time. In issue 117, a beautiful display of clothing is worn by the lovely Constance Jablonski and shot by Greg Kadel for a shoot named “The Kid“. You may think they are referencing the Charlie Chaplin movie until you realise the “prop” in the shoot is a black child. To compliment the child, they have put the very pale Constance in “blackface” and fake afros. The theme is lost on me, and I find it to be offensive rather than edgy as it does not work as a fashion story on any level. View Post
Crystal Renn is mostly known because of her plus-size body as she is classified as a couture model (where we all know thin is very in). It seems her weight has been fluctuating to the point of controversy over the past few months, so it’s only fitting that she is looking amazing in the new Jean Paul Gaultier ads.
JPG being the designer that sparked her weight controversy almost five years ago on his Parisian catwalk.
Crystal is joined by Kelly Moreira.
