hair trends 2013
If you think of yourself as a bit of a beauty trendsetter, it is no doubt that you’ve rocked one or two of the following hair colour trends over the past few months. You’ve at least pinned one or two of them. That’s right, babes, this is the rundown of the hottest hues of 2013 so far (plus lots of tips to help you keep that colour for longer!).

Dip-dye
Dying the tips of your hair may well have been a trend only sported by tweens and teens in the past, but it’s been making an appearance on some famous female heads in recent months; Christina Aguilera and Jessie J to name but a few. Pink is probably the most popular choice when it comes to dip-dye, but it is just as easy to go with whatever you fancy. Bright colours work well with platinum blonde and black, while softer tones and pastels look great with mousey blondes (more on that below) and brunettes.

Mousey blonde/brown
You know how people with curly hair always want straight hair and vice versa? Well, the same goes for those with a head full of mousey blonde locks. There’s only so many times a ‘mousey blonde’ can hear “well, it’s not quite blonde and not quite brown, sort of mousey” before thinking “great, I’m the same colour as a dirty animal”.

Until you realise Gisele Bundchen is about as mousey as it gets. Top trend created. Though her hair sent the tress-tamers into a spin in 2007, her mousey mane is making a heavily demanded comeback in 2013. If you’re not lucky enough to have a mousey hair colour, have no fear as there’s plenty of at-home hair dye kits to help you out.

Platinum blonde
I doubt that platinum blonde hair will ever be out of fashion, but it’s making a big impact in 2013. This is definitely not a shade that will suit everyone and takes a lot of effort/deep conditioner to keep it maintained, but is an ultimate statement maker when done right. (For this one, please head to a hairdresser before tango-ing your hair).

Balayage
For the best highlights in town us ladies are no longer heading for foils. We’re banging on about balayage. This popular technique simply means that the colour is swept onto thin strips of hair with a paddle, resulting in a youthful, purposefully ‘messy’ and natural looking finish. It’s a top favourite with blondes but also works well with brunettes and redheads as it is incredibly easy to maintain.

Ombré
If you want to latch onto the hottest trend for 2013, you will need to be willing to bare those roots for all to see.

Roots? Aaahhh. Yes, roots. This hair colour style takes its name from France (part of its appeal, non?) and simply translates to mean the shadow of a gradient. To rock this look you’ll need to be happy to sport dark roots with the hair becoming light from mid-way down to the tips. The end result will look a lot like natural surfer hair highlights – a look we all kill for.

Gisele Balloons Vogue
Vogue UK‘s colourful December 2011 cover is my favourite of theirs, in 2011 retrospective. Just look at it! Not only do we have supermodel Gisele Bundchen styled to stun (thanks to Lucinda Chambers), but the rest of the ‘cast’ includes photographer Mario Testino, make-up artist Linda Cantello, and gorgeous hair expertise of Oribe.

Katy Perry Pink Hair

  • Katy Perry (and her perfectly pink hair) got the October cover of InStyle – and I love it! The dark nails and textured styling are super appropriate and charming for this Fall cover.

  • This past Sunday, supermodel Gisele Bundchen was driving her Cadillac SUV down Route 6 though Barnstable when she was pulled over for driving 15 mph over the speed limit in a 55 mph zone with two babies in the backseat. The son, a certain William J. Hopper, of the statesman that let her off with a warning then tweeted: “He let her go, but in return she signed her autograph on the citation with kisses.”

  • Early next year, VH1 will start to follow fashion stylist June Ambrose for a new reality series. The Hollywood Reporter said camera crews will “follow Ambrose and her team of assistants as they serve a mix of up-and-coming and established celebrity clients, including actors and musicians, who want to make over their looks and brands”. June’s clients have included the Dave Matthews Band, Sean Combs, Alicia Keys, Kelly Ripa, Kim Cattrall, Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige.

  • Model Dree Hemingway will be playing a porn star in Sean Baker’s upcoming film, “Starlet“.

  • The City of West Hollywood (WeHo) is one step closer to banning the sale of fur. (It’s okay, fluff-lovers, the faux is just as luscious looking, nowadays!). A recent debate on the subject lasted until the early hours of this morning, where those who are pro-fur argued the law would be anti-business and questioned whether a ban would lead to a leather and/or meat ban, as well. The final vote has yet to be reached, but there is a current tip towards the ban.

  • Naomi Campbell‘s generous, Russian billionaire boyfriend has commissioned a 25 room, eco-friendly retreat for the supermodel in honor of her 41st birthday! The retreat/mansion/haven will be built on a private Turkish isle called Isla Playa de Cleopatra and, according to architect Luis de Garrido, “is completely energy and water self-sufficient and features an amazing indoor landscaped terrace”. It is also shaped like the eye of Horus, an ancient Egyptian deity. Check it out.
  • Kim Kardashian Wedding Dress

  • Kim Kardashian’s wedding – which was solely black & white in hue – was awesome. I may also be starting a new career as a wedding make-up psychic.

  • The rumour mill is a-whirl with thoughts that Marc Jacobs is going to be taking over at Dior. Strange choice, really. In that change, he would be leaving the handlebars of Louis Vuitton to Phoebe Philo (which is pure genius), though she would still be designing for Celine, as well.
  • According to Forbes, Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady are the world’s highest-paid celebrity couple in 2011. Bundchen earned $45 million between May 2010 and May 2011 and Brady signed a four-year, $72 million contract extension last September with the New England Patriots as well as bringing home $31 million. Oh hello, green-eyed Kanye West.
  • Since we’ve all been wondering what Filipa Fino will be working on after her departure as Vogue’s Senior Accessories Editor, her rep just revealed that she is going to “launch a new digital proposition that will have the world see fashion as a complement to accessories, as opposed to the conventional other way around.” O rly?
  • For the first time, Tory Burch is going to design tuxedos. They will be available exclusively at her Madison Avenue flagship, opening in September.

“A great tuxedo is modern and timeless for evening. My mother often wore her Yves Saint Laurent le smoking, and my father was known for his dinner jackets lined with silk Hermès scarves. Always superchic.”

  • Gisele Bundchen Brigitte Bardot
Photographer Nino Munoz had the difficult job of recreated Brigitte Bardot‘s classic ‘topless and tights’ pose for Elle Brazil‘s May 2011 issue. Obviously, he pulled it off. There could not have been a better choice than Gisele Bundchen for the homage.
