Regent Tweet

When I was invited to Regent Tweet a few weeks ago, I didn’t know what to expect. “An experiential shopping and lifestyle event for women that engages Regent Street’s fashion and lifestyle shops, bars and restaurants with online influencers” by description, however, piqued my interest. We all know I love me some Twitter, and with an itinerary full workshops and Twitter-based prize draws, there could have been many worse ways to spend my Saturday.

The best part turned out to be the friendships made, in fact. After falling in love with Katie while checking in at the Swarovski Crystallized lounge, we ended up spending the following eight hours together and meeting more lovely women and gentlefolk in the process. (Shout out to Felicity and Rosie – wonderful ladies and unexpected soulmates!)

This is a must-do event, guys. First, Katie and I bolted to Jaeger and became two of the lucky 50 bloggers who won £50 gift vouchers. The rest of our day included a cuticle glossing treatment and blow dry at FOUR London (see above!), coffee and pastries from hidden gem Tibits, Godiva chocolate, pampering goodies courtesy of Crabtree and Evelyn, cocktails and tapas from Aqua (one of London’s best rooftops), ice cream from Freggo, a T-shirt in a tin from Superdry, an Airform top from Uniqlo, a Moleskine notebook from Sebago (obsessed!), a food and health ‘tweet treat bag’ from Wholefood Market (poor babies had a boiling water flood before our cupcake-making masterclass!), a nail varnish from The Organic Pharmacy, cocktail making classes at The Living Room, and a delicious chilli-topped martini at Dirty Martini. Swag meets perfect ‘girl’s day‘.

Lana Del Rey Prabal Gurung

Lana Del Rey in Prabal Gurung

At the Q Awards, beautiful songstress Lana Del Rey was the recipient of the “Next Big Thing” award (which she is). Not super-fashiony news, I know, but LOOK at her Prabal Gurung Resort 2012 floral print dress! Dead. The white brogues add that perfect touch.

  • If you are at all aware of fashion on Twitter, you probably follow DKNY PR Girl. Though the ‘Twitter celebrity’ has kept her identity a secret (making us all woner, “Who is @DKNY?“), she has actually quietly revealed all!

Say hello to Aliza Licht, the Senior Vice President of Global Communications at Donna Karan International (via her video posted to Tumblr).

  • Karl Lagerfeld is launching a new line with Net-a-Porter! Seriously, when does he sleep? For a January 25th release date, the genius designer is creating “Karl“; a 100-piece women’s collection based heavily on denim and leather. A mens collection will follow for Autumn/Winter 2012.

Founder and executive chairman of Net-a-Porter, Natalie Massenet, said

“We believe in this collection based on Karl’s talent, his global appeal and the product itself. It’s a very strong, well-edited collection with a great mix of street attitude and timeless chic. It also is an entire wardrobe that mixes and matches well with itself.”

  • At Teen Vogue‘s “Fashion U” classes this past weekend, over 30 fashion industry heavyweights gave their guidance and regaled stories to a large group of young, wannabe name-to-knows. One very poignant note from the weekend? Proenza Schouler now “care less about what the critics [have to say] and more about the kids on blogs … their responses are pure, and instinctual”.

  • Up until now, my perfume collection has only consisted of spray fragrances or solid bar fragrances. Not too far from now, it may include “Swallowable Parfum“: a cosmetic tablet/pill (literally) that enables human skin to emit a genetically unique scent about who we are and how we perform our identities. Basically turning our skin into an atomizer.

I can’t lie…I really want to try this. Would you?

  • Codie Young Topshop

  • Model Codie Young was accused of anorexia by ‘experts’ and journalists when overly-photoshopped images of her were released on Topshop‘s website. Codie has spoken up to dispel rumours. Why? “I’m one of those people that doesn’t take crap from anyone. I stand up for myself. I felt I shouldn’t just sit back and have someone say something about me that’s clearly not true, so that’s why I decided to do it. I just wanted to let people know it’s not OK to just call us anorexic. I mean, obviously I understand that people are going to have opinions of me because I’m a model, but it’s different to accuse someone of having a disease.”
  • Lily Allen is closing “Lucy in Disguise” – her store in Covent Garden. In August, she will be opening a new branch in a different area of London. When rumors spread that Lily’s business was struggling, she tweeted “If any other publication wants to write deliberately misleading articles about Lucy in Disguise, feel free, I WILL sue you.”
  • “What I love is this idea of a wardrobe. The idea that we’re establishing certain signatures and updating them, that a change in colour or fabric is enough. I do think that the world doesn’t need many more frivolous bits and bobs that end up left in cupboards or landfills.” – Phoebe Philo on Celine
  • Lil Wayne is planning on launching a clothing line called ‘Rebirth‘. Yes, like his album. “I just figure that I… I’m funky. I got that from my stylist, Marisa. I’m funky, like she say. I wear a whole buncha items at one time, you know what I mean? I be figuring you at least want one of them items. Like, ‘Damn, I’d love to have that safety pin he got on,’ you know what I mean? Anything. I got on these types of shoes, these shorts, this sweater… A year from now, I want all these items to be mine. Rebirth. I want—I just figure people want to be funky like me, so I got my clothing line.”

    Anja Rubic Sasha Knezevic

  • Models Anja Rubic and Sasha Knezevic got married on the Mediterranean island of Majorca. Anja wore a wedding dress-cum-minidress custom designed by Pucci designer Peter Dundas.
  • Fabio is selling half-inch pieces of his hair for $10,000 on Craigslist, along with a $500 ice cream scoop, a $4,000 tanning bed, $8,000 CD tower, and a $5,000 commemorative pizza stone. Great way to spend your allowance.
  • Vogue has a new secret website that will launch in December. No-one is revealing the content or plans for the site. Let’s hope for a sartorial social network!
  • Alexander McQueen Wedding Dress
Welcome to your special Royal Wedding edition of Fashion Spot.

Alexander McQueen is my most adored British brand, which makes it extremely appropriate for today’s nuptials between HRH Prince William and Catherine ‘Kate’ Middleton. Take note of the ultra-sheer Union Jack. Though I’d adore to see Kate in a longer version of designer Sarah Burton‘s butterfly gown (seen here), my source tells me that Kate’s wedding dress is actually a vintage McQueen piece that Lee designed himself – with Burton taking care of the dress fittings. Follow me on Twitter for up-to-the-minute Royal Wedding fashion updates, and show me any Brit-inspired Fashion Spots of your own!
