Though there have been provocative ads featuring young teenage models left untouched by ad regulations for years, a photo of teenage actress Hailee Steinfeld sitting by a train track has been banned in the UK. The image – part of Miu Miu‘s Fall/Winter campaign – was banned for being “irresponsible because it depicted a child in an unsafe location”, to which I say… I feel like wearing snakes as clothes.
Carolina Herrera has announced that she plans to produce the wedding dress she designed for Kristen Stewart (aka Bella Swan) in Twilight: Breaking Dawn. I can only imagine the type of themed weddings that will come out of this!
“I wanted to create a magical moment that they had at the wedding. She’s an innocent girl that is finding her first true love, so there is romance, there is magic, there is everything together.”
– Carolina Herrera
Two of my favourite models (and rumoured sapphic sisters), Freja Beha Erichsen and Arizona Muse, were photographed hanging out at Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont this past weekend wearing two dresses from Chloé’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection. This, without the brand overtly saying so, suggests that the duo have booked the campaign!

Naomi Campbell continues her decades-long world takeover by becoming editor-at-large for the new German and Russian editions of Interview Magazine. According to the official press release, Naomi will “regularly meet great and outstanding personalities for this in-depth feature interview”.
Your daily dose of Karl Lagerfeld…coming up! International newspaper “Metro” (everyone’s favourite half-asleep morning read) has appointed Uncle Karl as “guest editor” for a day at Metro’s Paris offices on February 7th, 2012.
As “Metro” launches it’s Autumn/Winter 2012 show coverage the same day – it will be brilliant press for him. He intends to provide his infamous commentary as well as some of his gorgeous illustrations.
And there’s something in it for you, too! Though it hasn’t been launched yet, there will be a global web site launched where you can submit your “fashion statements” to a Look Book competition for a chance to fly to Paris and be an editorial assistant on February 6th, and lots of Lagerfeld swag, to boot.
Alexander McQueen‘s junior, lower-priced line – “McQ” – is opening a flagship store on Dover Street in London in Spring of next year! Preceding the opening, the line will also premiere it’s first-ever show for London Fashion Week.
Though I wasn’t blown away by Lanvin‘s Fall/Winter 2011 campaign images (featuring Karen Elson and Raquel Zimmermann ‘dancing’), I was definitely intrigued. Dancing campaigns are usually chosen to show us the movement and texture in the garments, where the Lanvin shots were almost frozen stiff.
Then came the Steven Meisel-shot campaign video. It is the missing puzzle piece, thank the Fashion Gods. In the short-ish clip, we see Raquel, Karen, and two male models doing some poker-faced choreography to Pitbull’s “I Know You Want Me“. Never did I think I would see the day Lanvin would embrace Pitbull. It is delightfully tongue-in-chic, and expertly wrapped up with a little boogie from Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz. Tres cute.
As I was flicking through the September issue of Vogue (UK) last week, there was one ad that really stood out to me – this one. Aldo‘s upbeat Fall/Winter 2011 campaign. Though Terry Richardson‘s personal controversies tie a lot of negativity to his name, he truly takes a bomb photograph. From Andy Harman on set design to Sarah Richardson on styling, each little component of the shoot came with their gameface on. Of course, the fierce shoes and sheer hotness of Lily Donaldson and actor Matthew Gray Gubler don’t hurt a thing. View Post
Awe-inspiring Austrian model Iris Strubegger strikes a pose in the same Bottega Veneta Fall/Winter 2011 lace dress I obsessed over in June, when Emma Stone wore it on the red carpet of the MTV Movie Awards. This super-hued September cover of German Vogue was lensed by Alexi Lubomirski.
Over the past two days, two of my favourite celebrity ladies have really impressed me on the fashion front.
First, we have Zooey Deschanel – the actress commonly confused for Katy Perry who gained major fame in Elf, 500 Days of Summer, and will soon appear in “New Girl” on Fox). Though she was stuck in a must-wear-black-tights uniform for years, she has recently started becoming a little more adventurous with her fashion choices.
At yesterday’s LA premiere for “Our Idiot Brother” (which took place at the ArcLight Cinemas), Zooey wore a monochrome Moschino dress from the Fall/Winter 2011 collection. Though the look is two-toned from top to bottom – where she sports a black pair of YSL Trib Toos – the ruffled detail at the waist and her oversized, detachable collar keeps it very Zooey. With a wavy, side-swept bun and super-long false lashes (only on her lower lash line), she is the farthest thing from Plain Jane.
Then we have the utterly gorgeous Kristen Bell on her way to a private ‘swag bag’ party which took place at an undisclosed residence in Brentwood, California on Sunday. The beautiful blonde paired together two separate Alberta Ferretti Spring/Summer 2011 pieces that I will now be seeing in my fashion dreams. They happen nightly.
The separates were a taupe, crocheted long-sleeve top paired with a grass-green skirt which was also covered in an apricot print. Accessories-wise we have the crocodile Jimmy Choo “Rhea” tote, orange stiletto-heeled pumps and gold-trimmed sunglasses. Nothing ‘matches’ but every item compliments the next. My kind of style.
